Time for a temperature check! Now that Disney’s new skip-the-line service is live and we’ve had the chance to try it out, we have a lot of thoughts. Genie+ is no more, and in its place is a service called Lightning Lane Multi Pass. In some ways, this new system reminds us of Disney’s OLD line-skipping service, FastPass+. But we’re not here to share our opinions today. Nope, we want to know what YOU, our readers, think!

We asked our readers on Facebook a simple question: “What are your first impressions of the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass system?” The responses were pretty split, and there’s a lot to unpack. Let’s get into it!
OK, before we get into things, we’ll start with a short and sweet overview of the new system. Lightning Lane Multi Pass is a new system to help you skip the lines for an additional fee.

You can now make three Lightning Lane selections in advance of your visit and choose an available time as you make your selections. From there, as you use each selection on the day of your visit, you can use the My Disney Experience app to make an additional ride reservation.

Now, there are some new caveats here that you need to know about, too, like the fact that Disney World hotel guests can book reservations early and Disney’s old tier system is back (sort of). If you want to learn more, make sure to read up on the changes before your visit.
Park Hopping Just Got EASIER With Disney World’s New Lightning Lane Multi Pass
Now that you know the basics, let’s talk about how people are feeling so far. Like we said, the responses to our Facebook discussion were pretty split. Some readers, like AE Reader Shawn, are happy and hopeful, commenting, “It looks promising and very user friendly.”

Reader Greg agreed: “Love it. Hope they extend the time to claim a pass to more days ahead. Reverting back to the Fast Pass method.” Here, our reader is referring to the new (or old) pre-planning feature that is part of Lightning Lane Multi Pass. No more waiting until the day of your visit to book those reservations!

On the other hand, not everyone is thrilled about the updates. AE Reader Diana said, “I miss the old fast pass. Why should you have to pay another fee on top of the already high admission price?” and Reader Kelly echoed the sentiment adding, “Easy but I wish it was free.”

Keep in mind that this system is still VERY new. In fact, it seems like some readers have already had some issues with the service. Reader Cristina said, “The app is a bit glitchy so that’s been rough. Lots of clicks around to modify etc.”

Patty noted that Lightning Lane reservations appeared to “sell out” later in the day and explained that her old strategy of “stacking” reservations might not work anymore. “Looks like nothing left for evenings. As a park hopper that likes to stack across multiple parks, this isn’t going to work for me. Looks like the ability to book anything decent after the first 3 will be extremely limited. Not a fan.”

The good news is that those who used FastPass+ back in the day might find the new service easier to use than Genie+! In fact, AE Reader Becky said, “Since it’s similar in certain ways to FastPass+ my learning curve won’t be as severe. We low tech dinosaurs can do this!!!”

We’ve still got a LOT to learn about Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and we’ve got even more experiments to test! When we say we’re covering every single question or angle you can think of…we mean it! What do you think about Lightning Lane Multi Pass? Let us know in the comments!
All I can say is its about time Disney did something to help guests enjoy their experience and decrease the need to have their face focused on a phone screen all day. I thought what Disney did with getting rid of fastpass, DME, and luggage service were money grabbing. I never felt those things were free. Just rolled into the room and ticket prices. And did room rates and ticket prices drop when they did that? No. Then to blame it all on Covid was just wrong and a convenient excuse to get more money out of guests. I would have paid for the services they cut rather than have Disney do it the way they did. Nothing magical about slipping your hand in someone’s pocket and taking their money as you claim you had no other choice. They could have paused those services then bought them back after the worst of the pandemic was over. But no.
The only thing I don’t like is the tier system.
It’s virtually impossible to do all the big attractions with this system. With Genie+, we always were able to get everything done.
