“Cost Increases While Experience Decreases” — 4 Popular Disney World Trends We’re Officially SICK of Seeing

Disney World is no stranger to trends, right?

EPCOT

Whether it’s matching Spirit Jerseys, dipping your churros into your Dole Whip, or any of the host of social media trends, we’ve seen a lot at Disney World. All of that really got us thinking about which trends we never want to see again, which is why we wanted to find out your thoughts on the matter! We asked, and you delivered!

We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “What trends are you sick of seeing in Walt Disney World?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!

What do you think?

Now, let’s go over some of your top responses!

Needing Your Phone for EVERYTHING at Disney World

First up, the vast majority of you have strong feelings about how much you don’t like that you are forced to use your phone for everything when you’re at Disney World. (The majority of you responded this way.)

Using your phone has become essential at Disney World

Here’s what you said:

  • “Reliance on cellphones for everything. Vacation means detaching from devices. Disney is making that impossible.”
  • “Costs increase while experience decreases. Needing your phone for everything. It was better when I had my family with me and could leave my cell phone at the resort and have a wonderful time.”
  • “Genie +. Bring back the Fast Pass so we can enjoy our vacations and not have to be on our phones the majority of our park days.”

Listen, we hear you loud and clear on this! It feels like it’s increasingly difficult to go to Disney World and be unplugged from our phones since we basically have to live on the My Disney Experience app the whole time.

Disney World Going Ultra Modern

Next up, you clearly have strong feelings when it comes to the fact that Disney World’s design has been going an ultra-modern route as compared to the other Disney parks around the world. (The next largest percentage of you responded this way.)

Here’s what you said:

  • “The trend at WDW design going ultra modern while the overseas resorts are having all this -AMAZING- themed stuff. They know that the people want- the OG feel.”
  • “I just said this to my family. I want the theming!!!”
  • “yesss. It’s the death of the themes for me. Every hotel looks the same. We want more, not less themed rooms.”

Listen, we’ll be the first to tell you that we love theming (OG theming for life!). We also get that Disney is “experimenting” to try to stay relevant, which feels a bit odd due to the massive popularity of the other Disney parks around the world that are leaning into the theming.

Hair Ties on Ride Surfaces

Now this one’s definitely got you perplexed and feeling a way because of all the discarded hair ties you’re seeing on different ride surfaces like on Expedition Everest. (The next largest percentage of you responded this way.)

Hair ties!

Here’s what you said:

  • “Hair ties thrown onto ride surfaces, it’s not just Everest.”

We’re 100% with you on this as tossing your hair ties onto these ride surfaces just makes no sense. We would LOVE to see a quick end to this one.

Stopping in the Middle of the Walkway

Last up, this is one that almost everyone has experienced like it’s a shared source of trauma — people stopping dead in the middle of a walkway like there is no one behind them. (The next largest percentage of you responded this way.)

Crowds in Magic Kingdom

Here’s what you said:

  • “People who walk around like they are the only ones there and just stop in the middle of the walkways and carry on conversations with no consideration of others.”
  • “and are 8 people long.”
  • “And being in a wheelchair makes it worse! Can’t tell u how many times my poor hubby has to try and stop quickly and these people give us the dirty looks because we could not anticipate that they were going to just stop without any warning.”

That last point is the one that gets most of us incensed. How difficult could it be to take your party to the side of the walkway (way out of the way) before stopping? It must be an incredibly difficult thing to not stop in the middle and block traffic or else we wouldn’t all have similar experiences with this trend.

  1. I totally agree with all of them…especially the cell phone issue; ugh!!
Here’s another one…parents that put their kids on their shoulders during the fireworks and obstruct the view of those behind them. Everyone wants that perfect photo of Cinderella Castle with the fireworks in the background. We don’t want a silhouette of your kid in the middle of our picture.
