  1. I want to mention a mistake I made with a Dining Package reservation: Assuming that “reserved seat” means a specific seat reserved just for me, which would be waiting for me whenever I chose to arrive. This is not the case and it can be misleading for first-timers. While I highly recommend the Dining Package as a way to see popular nighttime shows like Fantasmic or the Candlelight Processional, please know that you shouldn’t show up 5 or 10 minutes before showtime expecting to find a seat easily just because you have the special VIP lanyard (or sticker) that Dining Package people get. To use the words of a Cast Member working the event I attended, “With the Dining Package, we do guarantee you a seat. We just don’t guarantee WHERE.” That experience taught me that Dining Package people (and I believe FastPass people as well) are directed to a special viewing area, but not a specific seat, so the best way to secure optimal seating for yourself and your group somewhere within that section is to arrive at least 45 minutes before showtime and wait to be admitted. They usually start admitting those groups about a half hour before showtime (sometimes even earlier, I’ve noticed), so there will still be some waiting around for the show to start, but at least you’ll be inside and seated, unlike the folks in the standby line. If you take the risk of showing up a few minutes before showtime, you’ll still be allowed in, but you’ll have to settle for whatever slim pickings you can find, usually at the far end of row with a side view of the stage, and your party also might be forced to split up and not sit together.
