I went over to Downtown Disney today to see if the new Characters In Flight attraction was up and running. Unfortunately it was not. I was told by one of the Cast Members that it should be operating within the next week.
Characters In Flight is located right between Pleasure Island and the West Side of Downtown Disney. If you park near Planet Hollywood you will be able to see the big balloon.
The following picture has the operating hours, the cost to ride and the conditions of flight.
In this picture it may be a bit easier to read the “conditions of flight”.
The Cast Member that I spoke with said that they are just in the process of being trained and hope that all the training and permits can be finalized this week. While I was there the Cast Members were getting some rope training and training on equipment down on the dock.
Besides the Cast Member training, workers were still putting the final touches on the main walkway as well as some work being done on electrical equipment further down on the dock.
Finally here’s a couple pictures of the big yellow balloon taken from some different angles.
I really can’t wait to ride this. The views are going to be spectacular! The Cast Member who I spoke with said that he’s gone up on a couple test runs and said that on a very clear day they could make out the shuttle launch site at Cape Kennedy some sixty miles away. Also, the viewing experience is going to be very different between night time and day time. Both fantastic and I’m sure both worth doing.
The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that the attraction will now open on April 10th or there abouts.

Hi Mike,
I bet this will be fun experience, especially if you are up when any of the fireworks are happening at the parks
No reservations are needed for Characters in Flight.

Loving the blog, Mike! Keep up the good work!
Wow, super fun….now if they can put it on the Water Parks and More…..
I seeby the sign that it has wheelchair access. I wonder if a person in a wheelchair can see over the edge.
WOW!!! We are going in June and are taking a friends little girl (age7) for her first trip to Disneyworld. I am afraid of heights but just feel this is something one can’t miss. I am sure it will be a thrill for her, my hsuband and myself (if I don’t faint._just joking) Cost is reasonable also.
It looks like a great novelty idea but I don’t see it having a very long shelf life.
Thanks for another great update Mike!
Your attention to detail is fabulous! Thanks again for another great update DizneyMike!
Spectacular! I can’t wait!
This looks like a lot of fun! I am curious as to why they would charge a 10 yr old adult prices, but they cannot ride alone until they are 12?!
I cannot wait till September to try this out!! It looks fantastic.
this looks so cool can not wait to check it out when I am there in Aug. Should be worth the price.
