Shanghai Disney: Grand Opening with World Premiere of Disney’s THE LION KING in Mandarin

Shanghai Disneyland will open on Thursday, June 16. Shanghai Disney Resort launched Grand Opening festivities with the global premiere of the first Mandarin production of Disney's THE LION KING on Tuesday night in a gala affair at the Walt Disney Grand Theatre. A red carpet entry to the new theater welcomed celebrities, luminaries and Julie Taymor, the Tony award-winning director of the original Broadway production of THE LION KING. The red-carpet occasion also saluted Disneytown -- the resort's international retail, dining and entertainment area -- as well as two imaginatively designed hotels and Wishing Star Park.

Opening Date Set for Shanghai Disney Resort

The Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group announced that Shanghai Disney Resort will host a multi-day, grand opening celebration, culminating in a spectacular welcoming ceremony for the resort's first official guests on June 16, 2016.
