Nine Dragons: World Showcase’s Overlooked Restaurant

Posted on
One of the primary goals of World Showcase is deepening guests' understanding and appreciation of the countries they are visiting. World Showcase is a place to educate and entertain, somewhere guests can experience first-hand the cultures, histories, sights, and sounds of 11 different nations. As such, every aspect of these World Showcase pavilions helps to offer insight into their country's culture and people; their attractions, shops, and restaurants all have different stories to tell. With Nine Dragons this story starts with the restaurant's name. The name Nine Dragons is very fitting because both the number nine and dragons have special significance in Chinese culture. In China, dragons traditionally symbolize potent and auspicious powers such as control over water, rainfall, hurricanes, and floods. The dragon is also a symbol of power, strength, and good luck. Throughout the country's history, the Emperor of China has used the dragon as a symbol of his imperial power and strength.

I am constantly surprised at the amount of detail I find in all the pavilions in Epcot’s World Showcase. I found this craved dragon of stone in front of the Hall of Prayer … Continue reading "China’s Stone Dragons"

Disney Pic of the Week – China

Epcot’s China pavilion is rather calming with its tranquil reflecting ponds and authentic gardens. You can watch a Circle Vision 360 film, look at a diminutive replica of tomb warriors from Emperor Qin, and of course, shop and eat. The Street of Good Fortune (thanks, Jack Spence) is vibrant in rich reds, greens, and blues. … Continue reading "Disney Pic of the Week – China"

These photos say “Epcot” or “Magic Kingdom” or other Disney park or resort to someone viewing it. The fun in this for me … Continue reading "Scenes of Epcot’s World Showcase"

I never studied art so the concept of negative space has eluded me. I would get comments on my photos saying they had made good use of negative space. Turns out every photo has negative space which is defined as the space around an object of attention. Photos can have little or a lot of … Continue reading "Disney in Negative Space"

You wake up in your room at Walt Disney World and look outside and see dark gray sky and rain falling.
