New Exhibit Opens in American Heritage Gallery in Epcot

The American Heritage Gallery inside The American Adventure pavilion reopened on July 27 with a new art exhibition called "Creating Tradition: Innovation and Change in American Indian Art." The exhibition displays the work of contemporary Native artists alongside artifacts from centuries past, demonstrating how ancestral craftsmanship influences modern generations. The 89 pieces on display represent 40 different American Indian tribes from seven geographic regions across the United States.

Walt had planned for his boyhood hero, Abraham Lincoln, to be a part of Disneyland. Imagineer Wathel Rogers stated in 1963, "Lincoln is part of a Disneyland project called 'One Nation Under God'. (A curtain) will open to reveal the Hall of Presidents. The visitor will see all the Chief Executives modeled life-size. He'll think it's a waxworks-until Lincoln stands up and begins to talk."

Re-Discovering America: Family Treasures from the Kinsey Collection

Friday, March 8, marked the grand opening of the newest exhibit to be housed in Epcot's American Heritage Gallery -- "Re-Discovering America: Family Treasures from the Kinsey Collection." This exhibit of rare African-American art, documents, books and other artifacts from the personal collection of philanthropists Bernard and Shirley Kinsey will be on display in the gallery for the next three years. The current exhibit, which consists of about 40 items, is only a fraction of the approximately 300 pieces that the Kinseys have gathered over the past 30 years. Every six months, the exhibit will be refreshed with different pieces.
