It’s Inevitable. I Have to Spend $70 on This Weird Souvenir at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

What’s better than a normal droid? A Little Dummer Droid.

Droid depot

When Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge first opened back in 2019, one of the undisputed highlights of the land was the copious amounts of unique Star Wars merchandise, including the interactive Lightsaber and Droid-building experiences. Droid Depot in particular offered a litany of accessories and customization for its remote control droids, both BB and R-series droids. Five years later, we may have just found the greatest droid accessory yet.

The newest accessory kit, which went on sale in May, is exclusive to the R-Series units (think R2-D2 from the films) and features a full drum kit that can attach to a droid for a full rocking experience!

The kit, which attaches to the droid’s legs, also comes with an additional personality chip which can be implanted into the droid in order for them to “drum along.” We even got to see Zeppelin, the in-store display model in action! No word on whether he’s made of “led.”

He rambles on…

As with all Droid Depot accessories, the kit is a separate purchase available for $69.99, and is compatible with previously purchased R-Series Droids. If you want or need to purchase the droid itself, the base model price for the droid and experience is $119.99.

If you are in the market for a fully new droid, bear in mind that the process for purchasing a droid from the Droid Depot has changed somewhat in recent months. Originally, if you booked a Droid Depot experience on the My Disney Experience App, your credit card would be charged upon arrival on the day of the reservation. However, that’s now changed at Disney World. As of April 2024, the payment model of Droid Depot now sees the on-file credit card charged upon booking. Furthermore, AP and DVC discounts do not apply to those pre-payments.

However, these pre-payments are only for the base droid package, and accessories like the drum kit can be purchased upon arrival, and qualify for the aforementioned discounts.

Some further details on the Droid Depot process:

  • $119.99 per astromech droid unit, plus tax
  • Carry box and instructions included
  • Various personality-affiliation chips and other accessories are available for an additional charge
  • Age Recommendation: 3+
  • The experience area is limited to the builder and one Guest—at least one person in the party must be age 14 or older
  • Only the builder will be allowed to build a droid; the Guest of the builder may not build a droid
  • Custom astromech droid units are nonrefundable and are not eligible for Annual Passholder or other discounts

As overboard as this new droid accessory kit seems, we simply couldn’t resist its absurd appeal. Be sure to stay tuned to AllEars for further merchandise updates.

  1. Got the droid and the drum set. We can’t seem to get the droid to be in the drive position and get the drums to stay on. Once the side legs go back, the drum holders on the side drop behind the waist. Are we doing something wrong?
