Why You Might Want to Avoid Disney’s Hollywood Studios Today

Disney is making some BIG changes to some rides!

Hollywood Studios

We’re expecting an update to Test Track. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (the former home of Splash Mountain) is getting ready to open this summer. Country Bear Jamboree closed to make way for a new version of the show. Now, over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a huge change has hit a popular rideStar Tours!

What’s changed?

Star Tours has been at Disney World for YEARS and it has seen some changes over time. But now Disney has added new scenes and characters!

Star Tours

These scenes are from some of the newest Star Wars shows including Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, and Andor. With these new characters, there are now over 250 options when you ride making its re-rideability level very high!

An empty Star Tours!

When we rode, we started flying to the Planet of the Wookies but had to escape from some Stormtroopers. Then, we received a transmission from The Mandalorian and Grogu who sent us coordinates after Grogu tried to eat a frog, and Mando told him to spit it out.

Spotted them in the park after our ride!

We flew to the coordinates, where we flew through some Purrgils before connecting with Ahsoka via video transmission. We nearly got swallowed by a Purrgil, but R2-D2 pulled out an impressive barrel roll and got us out of there! Remember though, these scenes are randomized, so you may not get the same ones!

Crowds

We were at a media event for the changes and previewed them before the park officially opened. But once the park opened, the crowds came flocking in!

It was just us this morning!

At the very beginning of the day, the wait was sitting at around 5 minutes, but it quickly jumped up to 40! Compared to other rides in the park, this may not seem like a lot, but considering this ride usually has lower wait times, it’s a pretty big jump.

A 40 minute wait soon after the park opened!

Usually, crowds are highest on the first day of a major change like this — we saw that with Soarin’ in EPCOT when Soarin’ Over California returned for a limited time.

Wait Times

Star Tours is a ride we can usually count on to have a short wait. However, that has all changed with the new scenes and characters! At around 10:30AM, the wait time was at 45 minutes!

Typically on a regular day, the wait time will drop throughout the day, but on a day like today, that may not be the case! Keep checking the My Disney Experience app for the most updated wait times.

Meanwhile, right over in Galaxy’s Edge, the crowds are high over at Rise of the Resistance!

Merchandise

You can also grab some new merchandise in the shop as you exit the ride to celebrate the new scenes!

Don’t forget! This change has also hit Star Tours at Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Paris. We’ll be keeping an eye on Hollywood Studios and the new Star Tours changes, so stay tuned to AllEars for more!
