7 Rides Are CHANGING in Disney World — And Fans Are NOT Happy About It

SEVEN different attractions are likely changing in Disney World.

Welcome to the Magic Kingdom!

Disney has already announced updates for Test Track, Star Tours, Splash Mountain, and Country Bear Jamboree. Soarin’ in EPCOT is going to be transformed into Soarin’ Over California for a short while, and a Zootopia show is coming to the Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom. On top of that, Dinoland, USA, is being replaced by a new land themed around the Tropical Americas.  With all those changes coming up…what do the fans really think?

We reached out to our readers on Facebook and asked “Are you excited about the Disney World ride changes announced at D23?” and we got quite a mixed bag of responses!

So what were our readers’ honest opinions? Let’s dive into some of them!

Some People Were ON BOARD

Let’s start out with the positives! Several of our readers expressed excitement about the changes coming soon. One reader shared, “Yes!!! Already planning a trip for ‘24 and ‘25. The Pirates Restaurant. New attractions at Magic Kingdom! Makeover for the Boneyard! New attraction to replace Its Tough to be a Bug. All welcome additions. Can’t wait to see new fireworks at EPCOT!”

Another pointed to the possible retheme of Dinoland, USA, saying, “Yes! I was very much hoping that the Dinoland retheme would be South America.” We know that Dinoland hasn’t always been the most popular land among guests, so it’s likely that many fans will feel that way.

Another reader noted their excitement for updates at EPCOT — “Great to hear Soarin’ over California is coming back! But please make it permanent!!”

On top of those responses, a few people simply said “yes.” Which, we suppose, answers the question! ?

Mixed Responses

Some people had mixed feelings about the changes coming in the future. One said, “I think Test Track could do with a revamp, although not as much as Journey into Imagination. I think the American Tropics area of Animal Kingdom sounds good, but don’t like the idea of them getting rid of Dinosaur to do it. It’s a mixed bag but I think there are some positive things there.”

Another reader also mentioned the loss of DINOSAUR, saying, “I am a huge Indiana Jones fan but sad about the thought of Dinosaur ride going away, it really fit with an animal theme park. Great to have some animals of the past in there and who doesn’t love dinosaurs? Wish they could have both, they need more rides in AK.”

It seems that fans will definitely miss the older versions of attractions!

Probably Not Too Thrilled…

And then, there was a third category of commenters who were none too thrilled about the announcements. Some were upset by the fact that Disney still mentioned “Blue Sky” projects during the recent Destination D23 event. One person said, “they really need to build new attractions, not change rides up that aren’t broken” while another noted, “a lot of these seem to be pie-in-the-sky / wouldn’t-it-be-nice-if kind of projects. Hard for me to get too excited about them at this point.”

Another person took a different stance entirely, saying, “They need to maintain what they have. Yesterday so many rides were slow opening and then went down. Peter Pan had lights not on in the ride.”

Peter Pan!

So it seems that the response is incredibly mixed for these upcoming projects. We’ll have to wait and see what happens, and especially, what Disney confirms when it comes to changes in Animal Kingdom. We’ll make sure to share all the news with you as it happens!
