Remember those giant barges in the middle of the World Showcase lagoon? Don’t worry — we aren’t here to tell you that’s the best thing Disney has added to EPCOT (in fact, some may argue it’s the WORST thing they’ve added!).

No, instead, we’re here to talk about an almost universally-loved addition to Disney World that many may take for granted these days!
In the past ten years, EPCOT has changed a LOT. We’ve seen several fireworks shows and nighttime spectaculars come and go, we’ve seen new attractions open, and we’ve watched construction projects develop from start to finish. What a journey it’s been!

And while we LOVE zooming through space on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and drinking around the world, there is one change that outdoes some of Disney’s most ambitious projects. Any guesses?

This may be slightly controversial, but we think that one of the BEST things to arrive in EPCOT is the Disney World Skyliner. Yes, technically, this is right outside of EPCOT, but it’s known as the International Gateway Skyliner Station, so we’re counting it.

So, what makes the Skyliner so great? We’re glad you asked! The Skyliner is Disney’s newest form of transportation, and when everything is running as it should, MAN, this thing can save you some time!

If you’re unfamiliar, the Skyliner uses special gondolas attached to a cable to transport guests from the Disney hotel Skyliner stations (there’s one at Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Riviera Resort, and Disney’s Pop Century and Art of Animation Resorts) to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT. The Skyliner loops around the parks and hotels on a continuous system, so there’s typically a pretty short wait to hop in a gondola.

Need to pop over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios? Take the Skyliner! Need to go back to your EPCOT resort area-hotel but don’t want to wait for a boat? Take the Skyliner! Want a unique view of Disney World and a breezy little ride up in the sky? You know what we’re gonna say: take the Skyliner!

In fact, many Disney World guests treat the Skyliner like an ATTRACTION, not just a mode of transportation! In our book, a Disney project that is both useful and fun deserves some serious props.

Now, to be fair, the Skyliner isn’t perfect. If there’s bad weather in the area, the Skyliner will close, which may throw off your plans. Or, you may get stuck waiting in a loooong line in the morning or late at night. But hey, once you’re onboard and up in the air, the Skyliner is a handy mode of transportation that you won’t find in the other Disney parks.

Now that we’ve made the case for the Skyliner — do you agree? Are you team Skyliner? Many of our readers cite the Skyliner as a determining factor when booking their Disney World hotel, but some others may try to AVOID the Skyliner altogether.

So, what do you think? We’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more!

My family LOVES the Skyliner! We stay at Pop Century just so we can use it, and we actually do treat it like an attraction. It’s been a great way to get to Epcot or the Studios for my family.
Definitely Team Skyliner. We used it for the first time on our recent trip and we were hooked. We used it as many times as we could, saves a HUGE amount of time when going between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios plus you get to see the world from a different angle and the breeze is lovely ?
