The PROBLEM You Need to Prepare For When Visiting Magic Kingdom

Heads up — if you’re heading to Magic Kingdom, you could find yourself in the middle of an annoying problem.

Magic Kingdom

Closures and delays are simply part of the parks experience sometimes. Recently Hollywood Studios had some trouble with TWO major rides, the Skyliner was closed for refurbishment, and even the walkway to Magic Kingdom is down amidst ongoing construction currently. But one morning, we found that getting to Magic Kingdom from the Transportation and Ticket Center could come with its own unique complications!

We were at the Transportation and Ticket Center on February 24th when we noticed that the monorail to Magic Kingdom was down. There were other options available to get to the popular park, but those came with their own complications.

Ticket and Transportation Center

Both the ferryboat and the buses were taking guests from the TTC to Magic Kingdom, so you could use either of those modes of transportation to get there. But be aware — because of the monorail closure, the ferryboat line in particular got quite backed up when we were there — that could totally throw off your plans for the day and delay your arrival at the park.

The pro tip here is to look for that bus option as it can sometimes be a bit more tucked away.

ferry boat crowds

Another tip? During our experience, the Resort Monorail was operating as well. While you’ll have a few more stops and thus a longer ride to the park, this particular form of transporation wasn’t attracting as many crowds as the ferryboat when we were there. So it might be your SECRET way to get to the park with fewer crowds around you.

Keep in mind that this is something that happens from time to time. This is not the first time we’ve seen the Magic Kingdom monorail down, and back in January, the EPCOT monorail went down as well. It’s good to be prepared and flexible for when closures like this happen, so (1) know what other transportation options are available; (2) mentally prepare for the possibility of a closure like this; and (3) make sure you arrive to the TTC EARLY so you can make adjustments as necessary.
