What Disney World Crowds Are Like on the CLOSING Day of a Major Ride

The holiday crowds have left and wait times have decreased in Disney World, but other circumstances have changed the crowd levels in the parks.

Splash Mountain

Splash Mountain, which originally opened in 1992, is officially closing TODAY to make way for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. We spotted some wild crowds in Magic Kingdom already this weekend, but what can you expect from the crowds when a popular ride permanently closes in Disney World?

The day before Splash Mountain’s official closure, the queue was full of guests and the ride had the longest wait time in Magic Kingdom.

We expected something similar on its final day of operation, and that’s exactly what we saw!

Look at that line!

That whole line is for Splash Mountain — the queue couldn’t contain the crowds.

So. Many. People.

There was a giant group of guests ready to ride first thing this morning, which is why we saw wait times increase very quickly.

The line felt never-ending since so many people were in Frontierland to say goodbye.

There have been people everywhere today, but especially right near the ride. By 9:30AM this morning, the ride was already at a 90-minute wait time.

And within the first hour of Lightning Lanes being available, Splash Mountain had also already sold out. There’s a possibility more could be released later in the day, so if you’re in the parks today, be sure to keep an eye out.

No more Lightning Lanes

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is set to open in late 2024, so it will be a while until this area of the park doesn’t have construction. We’ll be bringing you construction updates from the park as Disney makes progress on the retheme, so stay tuned for that!
