When you stay at a Disney World Resort hotel you feel like you’ve walked into the middle of an animated movie, live like royalty among Disney Princesses, or even spend the day watching animals roam the Savannah. But, if you want an experience a bit more unique, look no further than Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter!
This VERY popular resort reopened in October 2021, bringing back the fan-favorite Mickey-shaped beignets (including boozy ones!) and southern charm. But, just what does a standard view room at the French Quarter look like? We stayed there recently and now we’re sharing a full room tour so you can decide for yourself if this hotel is worth it for you!
Resort Atmosphere
Before we break down everything you’ll find inside your room, let’s first take a look around the resort. You’ll be welcomed into the Mardi Gras party right when you first arrive in the lobby!
Inside you’ll find some bench seating areas, a full-sized water fountain, and the check-in area.
And, whenever you travel back to the main building for food or to speak with guest services, you’ll remain fully immersed in the theming.
Once you’ve checked in, you’ll need to head outside to make your way to your room. And, along the way, you’ll stumble upon more Mardi Gras decorations.
When it comes to amenities, French Quarter has one pool for guests to enjoy called Doubloon Lagoon. Like most Moderate Resorts in Disney World, this pool features a water slide (which is 51-foot-long and themed after a snaking sea serpent).
And, you won’t have to take a bus to get to Disney Springs from this hotel! French Quarter offers a complimentary water taxi service between the two, though you will have to take a Disney bus to get to any of the Disney Parks.
In terms of dining options, French Quarter has three spots to grab a bite including Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory (which is a Quick Service location), Scat Cat’s Club, and Mardi Grogs (which is a bar located at the pool).
And, keep in mind that Disney’s Port Orleans Resort has a sister hotel — Riverside! The two resorts are connected by a walkway that you can access around the hotel, but they’re not as close as you might think (it’s about a 10-minute walk)!
Alright, now let’s get into the room!
Room Tour
During our stay at French Quarter, we were in a Standard View Room featuring 2 queen beds.
Overall, the decor in the main room is fairly sparse with dark wood headboards, all white sheets, wood flooring, and a few paintings.
Between the two beds, you’ll find a nightstand with space to place your phone or other items you want near you when you’re sleeping.
Above the nightstand, you’ll also find light switches that control the lights above each bed — these can be turned on or off depending on your needs. And, each bed has some extra storage space underneath for your luggage or other items.
The room also features a dresser that discretely hides a mini-fridge against the wall opposite of the beds.
The mini-fridge is great for storing leftover snacks or placing some fruits or drinks for the mornings or afternoons.
You’ll also find the TV above the dresser which streams information about the Disney Parks along with cable.
Like to make yourself a coffee in your room before heading out for the day? In the room on the dresser, you’ll find a small drip coffee maker along with coffee packets, tea bags, cream, and sugar. Plus, there’s also an ice bucket and cups.
You can also learn more information about the enhanced cleaning services available in the hotel rooms on the placard you’ll find on your dresser.
The room also features a small desk with two chairs…
…and a mirror so you can get some work done, put on your makeup, or just relax.
You might even find a little Mardi Gras surprise here!
When it comes to the view, we were on the ground floor of the hotel building, so outside of our window, you can see the gardens and, depending on where your room is located in the resort, people passing by.
Over in the bathroom, you’ll find a double vanity as well as a large mirror…
…a smaller mirror attached to one side of the wall…
…and some storage space underneath the sinks with extra towels and a hair dryer.
This is also the area where the closet is located, where you’ll find plenty of hangars…
…extra sheets and pillows…
…an iron and an ironing board…
…and a safe to store any of your valuables.
This area can be blocked off when someone is getting ready and needs privacy using the curtain.
Next to the vanity, you’ll find the area of the bathroom with the toilet and shower (which has a door).
Inside the shower, you’ll find some H2O+ soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash…
…and there are also quite a few towel sets on the wall above the toilet.
And that’s the overview of the standard view room we stayed in at French Quarter!
Overall Impression
Overall, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter is a popular hotel for a few reasons: you can get delicious beignets, enjoy easy transportation to Disney Springs, and rest your head at night all at a fairly affordable price.

I miss the colorful comforters and pillows that added to the character of the room but this is still my favorite resort. It’s small, charming, relaxing, and easy to navigate. In addition to being a quiet resort the food is good and the portions are pretty sizable. I also love being able to take the water taxi to Disney Springs.
We just stayed here this week and as the rooms were spacious, they lack any Disney personality. The pool is small for the number of people in it and there isn’t enough shade. They can’t expect people to just sit and fry in the hot Florida summer sun. Yes, the beignets were delicious, but by far a selling point for our family. It was ok, but I don’t think we’ll go back. Not complaining, just sharing an opinion.
Love this resort
What a shame that the guest rooms no longer have any personality. I know that white bedding is a sign of a clean and sanitary room, but where is the New Orleans feeling?
