The Re-Open Florida Task Force Considers How to Safely Opening the State’s Restaurants

Although Disney World and Disney Springs are both currently closed, we’ve still been LOVING the pick-up and delivery options at restaurants in Florida.

While schools won’t be opening any time soon and beaches have started to open back up to the public, we’ve all been wondering when we will be able to sit down in a restaurant again. And, we might have a few answers about what will need to happen before you can dine out or get drinks with your family and friends!

As you might recall, Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis has been doing everything he can to build the state’s economy back up. Since theme parks around the world are shut down, including Disney World and Universal Orlando, things have been different for the state’s financial situation since so much of it relies on tourism.

However, Governor DeSantis appointed the Disney World President, Josh D’Amaro, and Universal Orlando Resort CEO, John Sprouls, to serve among the 22 members of the Re-Open Florida Task Force. While there’s talks about when the theme parks will open back up again, there is also discussion in the task force about Florida restaurants.

Jax4news reports that Tom Petrillo, the CEO and Co-Founder The Restaurant People, has talked about the issues surrounding restaurants reopening. On top of the possibility of suppliers not being able to provide enough to meet restaurants’ demands and staffing problems, there is a worry about how restaurants can adapt their dining rooms.

Specifically, Petrillo thinks that there might be a 50% capacity limit, separation of diners, different rules for outdoor seatings, requirements of masks and gloves for servers, and the use of disposable menus. He believes there has to be some agreements statewide about to handle dining rooms before restaurants reopen.

  1. The question is how long will they require the reduced seating capacity? Most restaurants work on a small profit margin to begin with. Will seating go back to normal in phase 2 or 3?

  2. I suggested local restaurants supply Wdw resorts with meals. Pumping the local economy, reducing staffing shortage at WDW, and only eliminating cooks, but not servers at resorts. Additionally a wider variety of meals. Expanding suppliers availability and cutting losses to restraunts with spacing issues inside their own places.
And they would be so busy theyd have to hire many many more workers. Delivery would be an issue but it could be worked out or use Disney kitchens. Parks restraunts can operate as normal.

And same for Universal and others.
