Universal has been making waves in the theme park industry as it rolls out Epic Universe for the world to see, making us excited for the future of Universal theme parks. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait that long before we see Universal’s next theme park — Universal Kids Resort!

Announced in 2023, Universal Kids Resort will be an upcoming 32-acre theme park tailored to kids in Texas. Here’s everything you need to know!

Targeted Towards Families with Young Kids

Aptly named Kids Resort, this new theme park will focus on families with smaller children, unlike the five other Universal resorts, which cater to kids and adults of all ages.

The lands will be based around kids-themed media, which we’ll get into more a little later.

The Park Opens in 2026

Located in Frisco, Texas, the theme park will be about 1/4th the size of the Orlando parks, but will still have plenty to offer when it opens in the first half of 2026.

While not confirmed, there is some speculation that the park could open in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will see Dallas as one of the host cities.

Will Include an On-Site Hotel

Families looking to enjoy the new theme park won’t have to stay far off property, as the new resort will include an on-site hotel.

The new hotel will have 300 rooms and will be 5 stories high. Best of all, the hotel will serve as the entrance to Universal Kids Resort, so you’ll get to see it whether or not you’re staying there!

7 Themed Lands

As for the IP coming to the park, we’ve learned that there will be 7 themed lands at the Universal Kids Resort.

You’ll be able to visit Shrek’s swamp, which will be a themed playground personally built by Shrek himself.

Over in the SpongeBob Land, “SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick, Sandy Cheeks, and Squidward will show visitors around their neighborhood, and guests can even earn their boating license and relax on the beach while enjoying nautical, nonsensical delights,” per Universal.

The Minions Land teases plenty of mischief, per Universal. Guests will visit a vacation retreat, HOWEVER, the Minions have taken over and now we’ve stumbled on a conflict where Yellow Minions are trying to “rein in” the Purple Minions! The land teases some wild water-based activities as well!

The Jurassic World-themed area will, unsurprisingly, bring you face-to-face with dinosaurs and allow kiddos to partake in activities that immerse them in the world of dinos.

The Trolls area is expected to be super vibrant and joyous, and packed with spectacle as you “join Poppy, Branch, and the rest of the gang to bring their voices together in harmony while shining brightly.”

The Puss in Boots Land seems super adorable, as you’ll get to meet Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, and Perrito at a kitty adoption drive! The drive will feature “decorations, sideshow games, fun rides and festive food,” as well as a sensory garden.
