The Walt Disney Company has plans to introduce new private communities throughout the U.S., including a location in Rancho Mirage, California, called Cotino, and a second in Pittsboro, North Carolina. These “Storyliving by Disney” communities are still under development, but one of the projects just revealed an update.
In 2022, Disney announced plans for “vibrant new neighborhoods that are infused with our special brand of magic.” This became Storyliving by Disney. The first location will be a community called Cotino in Rancho Mirage. Then, in 2023, Disney announced a second community called Asteria, and the project just took a significant step forward.
To bring Storyliving by Disney to life, Disney previously shared that it plans to work with respected real estate developers and home builders at each residential location. According to WRAL News, Disney developers spent $23.3 million on 217 acres of land in Chatham County, North Carolina. This will be the first parcel of land for Storyliving by Disney’s Asteria residential community.
This deal marks the first of a nine-step process to purchase 1,500 acres needed to build Asteria, per WRAL News. The community will feature 4,000 single-family and multi-family homes. At this time, the project is still in the initial stages of development, but home sales are set to begin by 2027.
Disney’s plans are not yet publicly available, but they are expected to be released in May.
Disney explained that Asteria will embrace the natural beauty of North Carolina, and according to the concept art, the community will feature tree-lined streets, parks, forests, and more.
These Storyliving by Disney communities are designed to “foster new friendships,” and will include neighborhoods designed for residents ages 55+.
