The #1 Reason Why People Aren’t Buying Delta’s Expedited Baggage Service

Delta Airlines has launched a new suite of services that will make traveling on the airline MUCH more convenient for those eligible. So why aren’t more people using it?

According to Delta, their Sky Priority program is a series of “exclusive services designed to improve your travel experience at every step. With Sky Priority, you’ll enjoy faster check-in and accelerated security, early boarding, and expedited baggage service.”

Some of the benefits of Sky Priority include:

Dedicated airport check-in areas so that passengers can move through quickly and get to their gates even faster.
Expedited baggage service which “ensures your bags arrive first on the carousel, to help get you on your way sooner.”
Expedited security lines at select airports.
During boarding, Sky Priority customers in Zones 1 – 4 may board through the Sky Priority lane.

However, along with those benefits comes a pretty hefty price tag. The Sky Priority suite is available to passengers in the following categories:

Delta Diamond, Platinum, and Gold Medallion Members of the Delta SkyMiles program.
Customers who upgraded and Travel companions booked in the same confirmation number (as the one with SkyMiles Medallion members with Diamond, Platinum, or Gold status)
International Frequent Flyer Program Members
SkyTeam Elite Plus Members. SkyTeam is a global alliance of airlines whose “members work together to connect millions of passengers across an extensive global network.SkyTeam offers the most comprehensive priority services of any alliance, easy and efficient transfers, and the opportunity to earn and redeem miles across all member airlines.”
Those traveling in premium cabins including Delta One, Delta Premium Select, and First Class options.

In other words, to take advantage of the benefits Sky Priority offers, a traveler must either be flying in the most expensive seating options offered by the airline or have to have reached a very high level in the Delta SkyMiles or equivalent frequent flyer program. All of which is quite cost-prohibitive, to say the least, for the majority of travelers.
