REVIEW: I Almost Fainted When I Saw This $75 Disney World Dessert (But There’s a Trick To Getting It Cheaper)

I think I finally met my (dessert) match at The Cake Bake Shop Restaurant in Disney World and I’m not even angry about it!

I’ve tried almost EVERY meal you can enjoy at one of Disney World’s newest restaurants since it opened late last year, and the taste surprises just keep coming. The Cake Bake Shop just recently introduced new offerings to the menu, like seasonal cake flavors, a spring entree selection, and even a special afternoon tea that will have you feeling like a little kid again. But none of those flavor experiences could have prepared me enough for what waited for me in the restaurant’s newly debuted ice cream treat!

I didn’t need another reason to stop by The Cake Bake Shop Restaurant at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort, but when the occasion calls for it, I’m always down for desserts! Seriously, I might have one of the BIGGEST sweet tooth cravings of the entire AllEars team, so when we spotted a new sundae debuting at The Cake Bake Shop, we knew this was a challenge I was all too willing to tackle!

The Cake Bake Shop has quickly risen up the ranks of my favorite Disney World restaurants. In fact, I’m fairly confident in saying I’ve eaten here more than anyone else on my team, and since I’ve attuned my taste buds to their novelty cakes, pies, desserts, and delicious plates for all meal types, coming back for another (hopefully) delicious dessert seemed right up my alley.

This breathtaking restaurant looks like something you’d step inside a fairytale to find. Located along the Boardwalk, it’s mere steps away from the neighboring Disney World hotels like Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, Swan & Dolphin Resorts, and the International Gateway into EPCOT along with access to the Disney Skyliner in case you’re coming and going from farther away.

As you step inside you’re treated like a true guest of honor as you’re brought around the expansive main dining room which is mostly decked in white clean lines and table linens (save for the gold table lamps and dining silverware).

As you look above the restaurant’s centerpiece, which rotates like a carousel ever so slowly while you’re dining, you’ll often be treated to seasonal changes in the cast of The Cake Bake Shop’s characters like Prince Earl, Buttercream the Unicorn, Rosette, and more!

For this visit, I was seated in the adjacent champagne bar room which features a brilliant chandelier in the center which helps highlight the gold tones against shades of white, pink, and accents of grey.

As I was seated, my server provided a lunch entree and dessert menu to look through. Since I knew I was solely after a dessert though, that’s the one I spent the most time browsing through. And like magic, there it was, staring right back at me in print. I was all too eager to get their new sundae ordered and wait for it to arrive at my table.

The Millionaire Sundae arrived just minutes after placing my order and I have to admit, it’s gorgeous! The sundae is made of your choice between a gluten-free or walnut brownie, chocolate sauce, caramel drizzle, homemade ice cream of your choice, whipped cream, and shortbread cookie pieces. The sundae by itself will run you $16.99…

…however, if you’d like it served in a souvenir porcelain swan bowl, The Cake Bake Shop Restaurant is happy to oblige for an additional $58. Depending on your preference, this could be one of the most expensive desserts you’ll ever try at Disney World!

When I ordered the sundae, I opted for the walnut brownie which was served warm to the taste and almost melted with each bite. It came topped with vanilla ice cream which was rich and the vanilla actually had a taste to it, which I really appreciated didn’t get lost under so much chocolate. In addition to the brownie and the ice cream, the sundae is topped with caramel and Ghirardelli chocolate syrup (it’s practically swimming in the chocolate sauce), shortbread pieces that crumble and seem to dissolve when they hit your taste buds…

…and topped with a gold millionaire chocolate coin piece.

Of course, it wouldn’t be The Cake Back Shop Restaurant without some added Pixie Glitter from Brûlée the Dragon!

As for how it tasted, well, it’s hard to put into words. It truly was a mouth-watering treat. If you’re someone who enjoys a traditional Millionaire Bar or has already joined the ranks of us who have tasted the Millionaire Cake slice from the restaurant, this is yet another treat that you’ll enjoy with every scoop. I’m used to tasting the cakes around the restaurant and as much as I love them already, this offered a new dimension to the dessert profile here.

As someone who rather prefers a cold, sweet treat (like ice cream) over something spongier like cakes, this was a welcomed change. Every spoonful’s flavors worked together to where I could taste them individually if I tried real hard, but almost gave a sort of coffee flavor between the chocolate options, mixed with the warm caramel sauce, crumbly shortbread pieces sprinkled throughout, and the creamy vanilla flavor melting right on top of the brownie — which was more of a fudge consistency than like a cake.

It truly was a supreme dessert to try here, and I was shocked at the portion size! Even for a seasoned Cake Bake Shop and Disney World eater, I had to admit I met my match with its size and could easily see this as a sharable dessert by 2 or 3 people (depending on how big your meal was before it). Is it on the pricier side of what you can expect to pay for a Disney World dessert? For sure, but, I’m also willing to bet that if you’re dining at The Cake Bake Shop you’re probably celebrating a special occasion, enjoying a nicer meal than what you would for a “regular” dining experience, or just have come to enjoy their menu items (like me) and recognize dining here will cost you a bit more than some of the surrounding restaurants. While I was here I also asked about The Cake Bake Shop’s Bakery offerings to find out if this could be ordered to take with you from that side of the restaurant and was told that making a dining reservation within the restaurant is the only way to order this new sundae.

I’m not certain how long this new sundae will last on The Cake Bake Shop’s menu however, it certainly scored highly on my list of favorites and I’m already planning to take my family back during a special evening out to see if they enjoy it as much as I did!
