REVIEW: Breedlove Has (Plant-Based) BEEF with This Iconic EPCOT Restaurant

Garden Grill is located inside EPCOT’s Land Pavilion and it’s one of the most unique restaurants in all of Disney World. Not just because it’s home to Chip ‘n Dale’s Harvest Feast, but because this restaurant actually rotates!

Expect to find family-style dining in this very slowly rotating restaurant. While you’re dining, you may spot scenes from the Living with the Land boat ride below.

Atmosphere

Dining here is family-style, meaning you’re served large platters of food to share. The Chip ‘n Dale Harvest Feast typically comes with a selection of meats and veggies, but there’s a plant-based version of the feast as well!

And, if you have meat-eaters and non-meat-eaters in your dining party, you can still order both platters to your table so no one has to sacrifice their preferences. You can see the plant-based menu below, which features a garden salad, pulled “pork”, smoked “sausage”, seasonal veggies, and more.

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

Okay, here’s the thing. I’ve honestly been dreading going back ever since they removed my beloved veggie loaf and replaced it with what they’re calling “barbecue pulled pork.” I had a bad feeling that meant jackfruit—and I was right. The veggie loaf was hands down one of my favorite food items in all of Walt Disney World. I’ve called Garden Grill my favorite restaurant in the world, largely because of that dish and the memories I have of eating here with my family going all the way back to the ‘90s.

When we got to the table, the iconic Mickey-shaped plate arrangement was already waiting, and our server recommended the iced tea—it’s freshly brewed in-house, then iced and sweetened (if you choose) with a simple syrup that’s also made in-house. I gave it a shot and I’m really glad I did—it ended up being one of my favorite parts of the meal. You can taste the difference. It fits perfectly with the homemade, farm-fresh feeling of the restaurant and the experience as a whole.

The salad is the same for both the regular and plant-based menus, except the standard one comes with croutons. I didn’t miss them. I love the combo of pickled red onions, olives, and peppers, and they’ve updated the vinaigrette recently—it’s lighter and sweeter than what they had before, and less acidic. I prefer it.

The allergy-friendly bread and plant-based butter are the same ones used across Walt Disney World. Nothing unique, but I like them. It’s gluten-free and works for people with allergies or who are plant-based, so it’s a solid standard.

One new thing since my last visit: they brought out a little terra-cotta pot of fresh vegetables—crudité—which usually comes with ranch, but there was no plant-based dip available. So they gave it to me plain. I figured I’d try them anyway, and I actually really enjoyed the veggies on their own. That said, it’s weird that there’s no alternative dip option. It wouldn’t be hard to offer something, and serving raw vegetables with no dip at all just feels like an oversight. Still, I ate most of them.

Then came the plant-based skillet. I made a plate with a bit of everything. The mashed potatoes were phenomenal—honestly, the best plant-based mashed potatoes I’ve ever had. Buttery and creamy, undetectably vegan. They’ve gotten even better than I remembered. Totally blew me away.

The seasonal vegetables were charred —super soft and moist, not burnt or dry at all. I’d love to know how they cooked them. They were low on salt but still enjoyable. The green beans were more flavorful, and while they didn’t have the visible garlic I remember from the past, I didn’t really miss it. Whatever they did with them this time, it worked—they were a highlight.

The smoked sausage is the same plant-based one used all over Disney property, but I still love it. I’ve had it a million times and I’m not sick of it yet. It’s always fun to see how each place prepares it, and this version was interesting—seemed like it was partially cooked in liquid, maybe also baked or grilled? Whatever they did, it had great flavor and texture.

Now… the jackfruit. I tried to stay open-minded. I don’t usually like jackfruit, especially when it’s just dumped plain onto a plate, but I gave this a fair shot. I even saved it for last, hoping to end on a high note. Unfortunately, it really grossed me out. Without flavorful bread or seasoned fries like another location in EPCOT—just a scoop of jackfruit doused in barbecue sauce sitting there on the skillet. It felt lazy. I couldn’t help but compare it to Regal Eagle, where you can get a barbecue jackfruit sandwich on garlic toast for $14.99 that actually tastes amazing, especially after you douse it with extra sauce. The fact that a quick service spot is serving something far better than what I was just served for $60 at a table service restaurant? That’s a problem.
Yes, it’s just one part of a larger skillet—but it’s replacing a dish that felt like a real entrée. The veggie loaf was made of crispy risotto and vegetables, with two house-made sauces. It was totally unique—I’ve never had anything like it anywhere, at Disney or beyond. And now it’s been replaced by something you can pull out of a bag and plop onto a plate, and that same something is made better across the park. It honestly feels like a culinary sin.

Thankfully, dessert saved the whole experience. The seasonal crumble right now is apple, and it’s incredible. I would happily go back just for the crumble and the mashed potatoes. In fact, I wish I could order just those two things to go. Charge me $60—give me a giant pile of them—and I’ll go home happy trying to forget the veggie loaf ever existed. The crumble was warm, buttery, and had this sweet, caramelized finish. Inside, there were whole soft-cooked apple slices with no peel, and the plant-based ice cream on top tied it all together perfectly. I could eat it every single day.

Magic or Tragic?

This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • You’re looking for a unique restaurant experience.
  • You want a break from your EPCOT day that comes with a LOT of food.
  • You’re hungry for a filling plant-based (or not!) meal with characters to boot.

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • You want a fast dining experience.
  • You’re only in it for the veggie loaf.
  • You aren’t hungry for an all-you-care-to-enjoy meal.

So, for anyone who’s plant-based or has overlapping dietary needs—whether for allergies or personal choice—the standouts for me were the house-made iced tea with simple syrup, the mashed potatoes, and the apple crumble. When you factor in the unique experience of eating inside Living with the Land—especially after doing the Behind the Seeds tour—and seeing Farmer Mickey, Chip and Dale, and Pluto… yeah, it’s still worth it. But I’ll always mourn that veggie loaf.

  1. Great review! My Mom’s vegan & says the quality & variety of the plant-based offerings has really gone downhill at Disney World the last couple of years. She does, though, love being able to check your reviews of what they do have for her to eat!
