I Stayed in Disneyland’s $1,400 Hotel Room, and I Wish I Could Say I’d Do It Again

Let’s go to Disneyland!

There is nothing quite like Walt Disney’s original theme park which is about to experience its 70th Anniversary this year! I love this park and the resort itself but there is one place that I’m not sure I would stay at again, and it’s Disney’s Grand California Resort.

Disneyland is special in my heart but, if you’ve never been, quite a bit smaller than Disney World. There are only 3 official Disney Resorts and they’re pretty expensive compared to the other hotels that surround the theme park. One of those resorts is the Disney Grand Californian!

This resort was inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement that was popular in California in the early 1900s. It focuses on craftsmanship which you can see in the exposed rafters, columns, and stone and woodwork throughout the resort. The resort is quite beautiful and has a direct entrance to Disney California Adventure, which makes it really convenient.

The resort also features some incredible dining experiences like Napa Rose, Heartstone Lounge, and Storytellers Cafe. While we really enjoy the atmosphere and dining, I’m not sure I’m crazy about this hotel thanks to the price point.

It’s no secret that the Disneyland Resort Hotels are pricey, but I stayed in the $1,400 room at the Grand Californian, and I don’t think I could justify it again. The resort and the rooms were incredible but prohibitively expensive. For $1,400 a night, we need more than just quick access to the theme parks because, frankly, there are other hotels that are just as close if not closer that aren’t owned by Disney.

The rooms were also a bit dated, which makes the price point even more painful. Disney did recently announce some major overhaul changes for the Grand Californian which I’m sure will help with this, but could increase prices as well.

The new resort updates were announced back in January 2025, and detailed refurbishments are beginning this year on the hotel rooms and the Disney Vacation Club Villas. The new decor will compliment the Arts and Crafts designs and will add “new bold colors” among the carpets, furniture, and bedding.”

The accents will be “inspired by the beautiful California wildflower blooms” and will feature new pieces commissioned from local plein air painters. Not only are the rooms getting a face lift but so are the dining areas! Napa Rose is closing for a lengthy refurbishment which will be “taking its dining experience to the next level with an exquisite new look that celebrates Craftsman design with an eye toward modern Californian luxury and approachability.”

The restaurant will be closing this spring before reopening sometime in Fall 2025. The restaurant will keep its famous exhibition kitchen but will expand the counters so more people dining in the restaurant can “watch the masters in action.” The outdoor patio will also be gaining more seating and two new fireplaces to help with ambiance.

While all of these changes are much needed and exciting, I’m not sure if I could justify another stay! Of course, we’ll be covering all of the new updates but if I was going on vacation, I would probably stick with the Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotels so I can spend even more of my money in the parks! If you’re looking to splurge, this is a great option, just not one for me.
