The Cars area will be built where the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island are currently located. Construction is expected to begin in early 2025, but Disney has not yet announced an anticipated opening date.

Now, we have a few behind-the-scenes details about one of the attractions that will be built in the Cars area! This attraction takes riders on a thrilling race through the mountains. Racers will climb mountain trails, dodge geysers, and splash through mudholes.

In order to research the real experience of how Disney Imagineers wanted this new ride to feel and really immerse people into the ride, the team was inspired by renting vehicles to do a little off-roading in the Arizona desert. Additionally, they also worked with a motocross company to build a dirt track to race around and collect their own data about what (and maybe more importantly, the feeling) they experienced during this field trip.

After talking over their shared experiences, Disney’s Imagineering team built a model of what they felt could roughly represent the same experience in a controlled environment and make it compatible for ride vehicles to traverse continuously. Here’s a look at one of the models they came up with!

This data and the accompanying model allowed Disney’s Imagineers to create a plan to deliver the right kind of experience for this attraction.
Not only will the ride experience be unique, but so will the ride vehicles you can ride around in! Here’s a look at a few vehicle sketches we can expect to see when the ride nears completion!

These cars have to be built tough to withstand all kinds of weather and mileage and work every single day of the year — not to mention pulling off a personality to each individual car’s design. This is where Pixar stepped in to make these vehicles seamlessly fit for the new attraction. Pete Docter of Pixar also shared, “Each vehicle in the ride will have its own name and number, just like a real race.”

While the new Cars area has received mixed reactions from Disney fans, we are excited to be learning more about the new attractions.

No one wants this. Especially in lieu of rivers of America or Tom Sawyer Island. They have plenty of room in Florida to expand. This will wreck Magic Kingdom. Can you imagine a Cars ride right next to Haunted Mansion? Loud racecars drowning out the creepy wind and music? That’s just for starters but you get the idea.
i 100 percent agree with you. no one wants this change.
Speak for yourself!! My family and I are super excited for this
