We’re Getting Anxious About This HUGE Construction Change That’s About to Hit Disney World

Some big changes are hitting Disney World in 2025!

There are some great, big, beautiful projects coming in the future tomorrows. We’ve already seen the start of demolition of DinoLand in Disney’s Animal Kingdom earlier this year to make way for Tropical Americas. But, there’s another construction project at Disney World that has us worried.

Cars Land is coming to Magic Kingdom. While this might feel a little out of place to you, the Cars are moving to Frontierland as they are leaving Radiator Springs to explore the West and head into new frontiers.

This is a large project as we will be getting 2 new attractions in this area. The Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will be transformed into this brand-new land coming to the park. That means that Cars land will be located in Frontierland and as Disney wrote will, “put our guests in the driver’s seat as we—quite literally—explore a new frontier in Frontierland.”In looking at the current Magic Kingdom map and based on Disney’s announcement and the concept art, the red line in the image below indicates where we expect the new Cars area to be.

Construction is supposed to begin in 2025. That is also when the existing Liberty Square Riverboat which sails down the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will close to accommodate construction. But why are we worried? It will be odd for us to see this construction happening… or lack thereof.

We expect construction walls to go up around this whole area preventing guests from seeing anything… as Disney typically does. The river will likely be drained, the boat removed, and major construction happening here for a while. The construction walls might make this area feel more cramped not being able to see across the water like we can now.

Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America are set to close

This project isn’t the only big one coming to the kingdom… Villains Land, of course, is also coming to Disney World. According to Disney, “guests will be able to venture Beyond Big Thunder Mountain into an all-new land dedicated to Disney Villains”. This is a huge project as well, but we might not be able to see much of this construction due to its location.

Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away is a new nighttime parade coming to Magic Kingdom this summer. While this won’t have any construction, we are so excited to see a nighttime parade back at Disney World.
