I Was Today Years Old When I Realized THIS Must Be Someone’s Job in Disney World

Do you ever have those sudden realizations that make you wonder how you’ve made it this far in life?

EPCOT

You know, the ones that kinda make you go, “Oh, duh.” Well, the team here at AllEars had one of those realizations recently that made us do just that. But, we still can’t believe this must be someone’s job in Disney World.

We have PLENTY of wild and wacky discussions on our work chat here at AllEars. There aren’t many workplaces where it makes sense to regularly rank the best corn dogs in Disney World, or where it’s cool to cut out of work early to head to the parks — with the full support of your boss. And, sometimes, these discussions are so wacky that they deserve to be shared with the world.

Spaceship Earth looking a lil dirty

Have you ever thought about how exactly Disney keeps Spaceship Earth clean? It just sits there in all its glory in the Florida sun and is exposed to those notoriously harsh Florida winters. It’s bound to get dirty and grimy, right? Which also means that it MUST be someone’s job to… clean Spaceship Earth?!

Spaceship Earth

We know, we know, it seems obvious. Of course it would be someone’s job to clean the ol’ EPCOT golf ball when she’s looking a bit worse for wear — it just wasn’t really something we thought about until Quincy brought it up in a work chat!

Ironically enough, when EPCOT first opened, a big marketing push for the Spaceship Earth structure was the fact that the triangular Alucobond panels that make up the outside were “self-cleaning,” though it’s clear that’s not actually accurate — at least not anymore!

Disney typically pressure washes the panels when they get dirty, which probably doesn’t happen too often with how much it rains in Florida — but still, that means it’s someone’s job to strap in and get Spaceship Earth looking like a giant, shiny golf ball once again.
