In case you haven’t heard the news, It’s Tough to Be a Bug is permanently closing on March 17th at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. To be honest, I’m pretty devastated…but not for the reason you think.

A Bug’s Life isn’t the best Pixar movie ever in my opinion. I prefer thrill rides over shows. But there’s just something special about taking loved ones and friends to Disney World first time and totally tricking them — it has become a beloved pastime of mine!
If you’re a Disney expert and you’re taking someone to the parks for the first time, I highly recommend getting involved in the trickery. Whether it’s convincing them that Beverly at Club Cool is the best soda ever or telling them the first row of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is the best for staying dry, you can make it your own little game!

Personally, one of my favorites has always been taking them to see It’s Tough to Be a Bug. I describe it as a cute show about A Bug’s Life with some fun effects…and that’s it.

Nope, no warning about the giant spiders dropping from the ceiling. No heads up about the stink bug part. And the bugs exiting the theater at the end definitely have to be a surprise. Call me evil, but it is thoroughly entertaining and I know I am not alone in finding amusement this way!

Although there are other forms of deception to continue this trend, It’s Tough to Be a Bug had a special place in my heart for this. There isn’t really another “scary” ride or attraction like this. You have Tower of Terror but it’s hard to hide what happens on that one!

It’s Tough to Be a Bug opened on April 22nd, 1998 as an opening day attraction for Animal Kingdom in the Tree of Life Theater. It’s been entertaining visitors for years, but that comes to an end in March 2025.

In winter 2025, a new show called “Zootopia: Better Zoogether” is set to open! Disney explained that the show will take us on an adventure through different biomes seen in the film. Zootopia 2 is also set to release in movie theaters on November 26th, 2025…so could we see some new characters and scenes in the show? It’s possible, but we’ll have to wait and see!

We asked the AllEars readers what they thought of this change, and 82% of them said Zootopia was the move here. I know my opinion is not a popular one, and I also love Zootopia (and think it makes perfect sense for this park), but I will need a mourning period come March.

Here’s hoping that the Zootopia show will have something that catches people off guard the same way people freak out about It’s Tough to Be a Bug right now. Keep following AllEars for the latest updates!
