It can be so exciting to finally get the notification that your Disney World resort hotel room is finally ready!
When you arrive in your room, you may have a different ritual or routine. Some people like to unpack their suitcases; others might just want to drop off their luggage and head straight back to the parks. No matter what you choose to do when you finally are able to enter your hotel room, you NEED to do this one travel hack before leaving your room again.
Depending on which Disney World hotel you stay at, you might have different room amenities like a kitchenette or bathrobes, but no matter which hotel you stay at, each room will be equipped with a safe.
Some people choose not to use their safe, but if you want to lock up valuable items like your laptop, tablet, jewelry, or other valuables, you are also going to want to lock up something that is not valuable, like a shoe. The worst thing you can do is forget to lock up something that you WILL remember.
While it may sound weird to lock up something like a shoe, there is actually a good reason behind this! When your vacation sadly comes to an end, and it is time to pack up, you may end up forgetting about your items that are out of sight and in the safe. Even if you do a room crosscheck, you can still end up forgetting to check the safe.
Do you know what you will notice when you are packing back up? That your pair of shoes is no longer a pair, and you are instead missing a shoe! That is because you left the other shoe in the safe! The shoe that is in the safe acts as a reminder for you to empty the safe of all your valuables.
This is similar to having to leave your I.D. somewhere as a deposit to remind you to return an item. So, no matter if you choose to unpack right away or later in the day, the first thing you need to do when you can finally check in to your room is place a shoe in the safe.
Now we know what you may be thinking: why would you pack that pair of shoes if you could not use them? If you want to wear the pair of shoes that has the match in the safe, simply swap the shoe out for a different shoe to act as a reminder.
While we are always on the lookout for the best Disney World hotel tips, this tip can be used as a universal travel tip, no matter where you are staying! By leaving a shoe in the safe, you are making sure you don’t leave behind your valuables for the next guest staying in the room or having to deal with getting your property shipped back home.

My husband and I are in our 80’s so we always lock up our expensive medications every day after taking them in the morning.
So we never forget to check. Now this past September we were at the GF and on our last day we could not get the safe to open!. We called down to the desk and did not have to wait long for someone to come up and open the safe.
By the way, our sliding glass door was not working either and no problem it was fixed in no time. It needed a new lock sysytem.
