Why Is Everyone Ignoring This HUGE Disney Cruise Line “Problem”?

The Disney Cruise Line is in a period of massive expansion. Much like the broader cruise industry, Disney’s seafaring wing is experiencing a surge in ridership, which in turn has led to a vast investment in the company. Over the next several years, seven new ships are scheduled to join the fleet, including not one, but TWO in 2025.

Later this year, the Disney Destiny and the Disney Adventure are scheduled to begin service within weeks of each other. This of course creates a “problem” – – a good problem to have be sure – – with those wishing to voyage on one of these new ships: Which to try first? We’re breaking down everything we know about both ships below to help those on the fence decide.

Let’s begin with the Disney Destiny, which in many ways is the more “traditional” of the two ships. The vessel will be part of the DCL’s Wish class, which also boats the Disney Wish (naturally) and the Disney Treasure.

The Destiny — under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyards in Germany —  will be similar in layout to those sister ships, and is scheduled to launch on November 20th, 2025. The ship will continue to integrate Marvel characters and themes into the line. In fact, the Destiny is upping the Marvel ante considerably.

The ship will feature a Worlds of Marvel restaurant, like the Wish and Treasure, but unlike the others, this version will feature a Guardians of the Galaxy dinner show. In addition, the ship will feature a lounge inspired by Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum, and the ship’s massive central hall will be themed to the nation of Wakanda, with a statue of Black Panther at its heart. The theme even extends to the hull, where the ship’s stern character — a tradition on Disney Cruise ships — will be Spider-Man and the Spider-Bots that riders of the Spider-Man Webslingers attraction will recognize.

The ship will also feature a show based on Disney’s Hercules, a sweets shop based on The Incredibles, and a restaurant themed to The Lion King.

The Disney Adventure on the other hand is an entirely different story. The ship, a Global Class vessel, was originally commissioned by Genting Hong Kong, a holding company that controlled several travel concerns. The ship was to be called the Global Dream and would have sailed from Chinese ports during the summer season, as well as Southeast Asia, Oceania and the west coast of the United States during the remainder of the year. However, the Genting Hong Kong company would go out of business following the pandemic, and lead to an opening for Disney.

In November of 2022, Disney purchased the still-under-construction ship and announced it would be part of the Disney Crusie line. In 2024, the company confirmed that the ship will launch its maiden voyage on December 15th, 2025.

According to Disney, the new ship will bring the “signature whimsy and wonder of favorite stories from Disney, Marvel and Pixar spring to life. Without ever leaving the ship, you’ll be immersed in 7 themed areas—Disney Imagination Garden, Disney Discovery Reef, San Fransokyo Street, Marvel Landing, Toy Story Place, Town Square and Wayfinder Bay.”

So, with these two ships launching within a month of each other, which one is the better option? Well, there is a massive caveat to that question: Home Ports.

The Disney Destiny will make its home in Port Everglades, Florida, and its initial sailings will feature four- and five-night cruises to the Bahamas and the Western Caribbean. On the other hand, the Adventure’s home port will be in Singapore, and the ship will take 3- and 4-night voyages from the port of call.

So, in other words, the Destiny will provide a more “traditional” Disney Cruise Line experience, though loaded with a lot more Marvel than ever before. The Adventure, on the other hand, will feature a ship that’s different than Disney’s usual thanks to its plans stemming from a different line, with an international port of call as its home base.
