Is Disney World Closing the WRONG Rides? New Report Says Yes.

Disney World rides close unexpectedly — that’s a known fact.

Magic Kingdom

Even if you wish with all your might, cross your fingers and toes, and throw some pixie dust around, running into an unexpected ride closure is still very likely to happen. Disney recently announced that a ton of rides are closing, whether it be permanently or for a long refurbishment, and we have to admit — we’re starting to wonder if Disney is closing the WRONG rides for refurbishment.

Magic Kingdom

Prince Charming Regal Carrousel closed a total of 53 times in 27 days, which alarmed us at first, but then we remembered that this ride closes once every day for fireworks! That accounts for 27 of the 53 closures, but it still does leave us curious about the remaining 26.

We love The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, but seeing that it closed 37 times in 20 days does NOT make us confident in its ability to run very well right now. This is an indoor ride, meaning it doesn’t close for weather, so what the heck is going on?

And finally, we have Magic Carpets of Aladdin which closed 36 TIMES in 21 days. Disney, you’re closing Astro Orbiter for refurbishment and NOT this one?! This one sounded like it was LITERALLY screaming for help for MONTHS this year, and even though it seems someone has given it some WD-40 to calm it down for now, we think it needs some major TLC.

EPCOT

We don’t know WHAT is going on with The Seas with Nemo and Friends, but this omnimover, screen-heavy attraction is seriously in need of help because it closed 49 times in 23 days.

Meanwhile, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure closed 30 times in 15 days, but we’ll cut this one some slack. It’s the busiest time of the year, and this has some serious technology advancements that act up every now and then, so we’ll give it a break!

Disney is on the right track with this refurbishment though, because Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros closed 25 times in 15 days. Not great for a relatively simple boat ride! It’ll be closed for approximately two months beginning January 6th.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

We’re not surprised to see Rise of the Resistance at the top of this list, closing 38 times in 20 days, because again, this technology is wild! Trackless dark rides are epic in their own way, but it also means that they run into unique issues other rides may not see as often.

*sigh* Now this one makes us sad and frustrated, but we’re not surprised. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith closed 32 times in 16 days, even though it just completed its SECOND major refurbishment in as many years a few months ago. We know lots of folks are upset this ride will be rethemed to Muppets, but maybe the ride has been telling us for a while that it’s ready for some sort of change.

Finally, we have Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway closing 25 times in 18 days, which again, we can understand. Does it make it any less annoying when it happens to you? No, of course not, but hey, that’s why we say to expect it!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

YIKES. The highest amount of closures here fell to Expedition Everest which closed 28 times in 17 days. Recently, the ride was down for about 5 hours in ONE day, which didn’t look good, especially during the busy season.

TriceraTop Spin closed 16 times in 12 days, which all things considered isn’t too bad. However, it’s been on this list for the past few months relatively consistently, so it looks like its imminent retirement is for the best.

Lastly, DINOSAUR closed 13 times in 11 days. Again, not terrible compared to other rides, and it does make us even more sad that we’ll be losing it soon-ish (although we do still have most, if not all, of 2025, per Disney).

  1. Yuk. I like you guys for my “Disney cheerleader” news, but your headline “of Disney closing the wrong rides” pushed a button. Disney has Miles and Miles of undeveloped land, but has to fill in Rivers of America so we can have more concrete and less water in Magic Kingdom? Can’t put “Cars” in New area (or even over fairly lame Tomorrowland Speedway), but instead have to take away one of the simply best places in the entire WDW property to take young kids to safely blow off steam in a very fun, nostalgic environment of Tom Sawyer Island? Nope, EVERYONE in the Haunted Mansion line has been BEGGING for RACE CAR NOISE to liven up the Haunted Mansion experience. Idiocy. Jim Henson is an icon and Muppets 4D a treasure, so let’s tear it down to make way for a DISNEY Intellectual Property (Monsters) that literally NO ONE is begging for. But don’t worry families with small children or Seniors who really loved the immersive environment of Muppets 4D, Disney is not getting rid of the Muppets, OH NO! Muppets will be alive and well on the Aerosmith roller coaster, WHAT FUN!! Of course many Seniors and all small children and anyone with heart or back conditions can’t go on the ride, but HEY! How many small children or Seniors even GO to Disney World, really?? Let’s tear out the peaceful area where you used to be able to enjoy the iconic Dinner Show Polynesian Luau, and replace it with a DVC HILTON that we’ll name a Polynesian Resort expansion. Who doesn’t want a 7 Seas Lagoon completely developed with money making hotel rooms? Don’t worry Bay Lake, Disney is coming for you next. But hey, who the heck am I? Disney has cut services and jacked prices so high it makes Ebeneezer Scrooge cringe, and I guess people keep coming to their hotels. So maybe the Disney stockholders are right. Bleed the consumers dry, they’re too dumb to know better than to pay 5 times as much for a Disney vacation as other equally appealing options, so why even care about what they want? Apparently what they want is to just give Disney every penny of their vacation budgets, no matter what is cut, or how mediocre the service and amenities become. But it’s not the Fabulous Disney of yesteryear, and I fear for what a Disney World future may become. Ever heard of EPIC UNIVERSE? Just sayin’.

  2. Sad about many of them, astro orbiter, just because I’ve decided to go to the parks soon and it, nor thunder mountain will be open.
