Where Is Disney Building Its NEW Avatar Land?

When it comes to the Disney parks, especially the Disneyland Resort, the changes never stop!

As you know, there’s that massive Disneyland Forward project, that’ll be bringing with it new lands, attractions, and more. Speaking of lands and attractions, we know that a a brand-NEW Avatar-themed area that’s inspired by Avatar: The Way of Water and upcoming films from the franchise will be coming to Disney California Adventure, and we wanted to have a quick chat about where we think Disney will be building it!

As we were saying, way back at the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event earlier this year, Disney confirmed that Disney California Adventure will be getting a NEW Avatar-themed area that’s inspired by Avatar: The Way of Water and upcoming films from the franchise.

We don’t know a lot about this new area, but what we do know is that it’ll be getting a brand-new Avatar ride that will take you on “An excursion in search of majestic natural wonders that can only be found on Pandora.” It’s a boat ride that travels through valleys to open seas to creepy caves. Thanks to the concept art Disney shared, we can see that the ride vehicle looks to seat four people across with an overall six rows of seats.

Now, don’t worry. Even though it’s a boat ride, it looks like this will be a significantly different experience from the Na’vi River Journey ride currently at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Now on to the biggest question in all of our minds: “Where are they going to built this brand-new area??” To be clear, there has been no official word from Disney yet, but let’s put on our speculation caps and get to work.

As we said earlier, with the DisneylandForward project, they have a lot of room to work with and we can immediately think of two possible areas. Here’s the concept art of the project.

Now, let’s zoom in and circle the areas we’re talking about.

So, the main telltale features we are looking for are mountains and water. Both the red and yellow circled areas appear to have that. The red circle looks to have more than the yellow circle and also, there is a snaking river we can see in the red area, which lines up to what the featured attraction will be (a river ride).

Also, if you look at some of the concept art, there would appear to be land bridges that go over some of the water in front of the feature mountains.

So, if we were betting people, and we HAD to make a decision right now, we’d go with this area being the one where the new Avatar-themed land would go.
