I know you’re in the middle of planning a Disney World trip for next spring, but before you check out, we’ve got to talk!

Now, I get it. Disney World just might be the holy grail of vacations. You know, one of those “bucket list” places you dream about. And Spring at Disney is a big deal. The Florida weather is amazing. The EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival is in full bloom. There’s just a ton of energy all over. That all being said, there’s a pretty “epic” reason why next spring might actually be the worst time to go, so let’s talk about it!
As we were saying, if you’re trying to lock down your Spring 2025 vacation plans, you may want to pause a second and consider that it might not be the best time to visit Disney World. You might be asking, “Why is that?” I’m so glad you asked. Well, in case you’ve been “incommunicado” for the last few years, the Universal Orlando Resort is about to open up their brand-new park Epic Universe, and it’s all going down on May 22nd, 2025!

So, What’s the Big Deal with Epic Universe?
For starters, Epic Universe isn’t just a few new rides or a fancy new attraction; it’s a whole new park with lands that’ll make you feel like you’ve stepped into another world.

There will be five (5) incredibly immersive lands, over 50 attractions, entertainment experiences, retail shops, and food and beverage outlets, and more! Those five new lands are as follows: Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Celestial Park.

If you think about Celestial Park like the hub of it all, you’re on the right track. It will be the gateway to the other four lands. On to of that, it will be filled with lush gardens, winding waterways, and scenic pathways.

Here’s a bit about the other four lands:
- Dark Universe – This eerie world, inspired by Universal’s classic monsters, is a shadowy landscape where myth, mystery, and legendary creatures roam.
- The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic – Set in 1920s Paris from the Fantastic Beasts films and featuring the iconic British Ministry of Magic from Harry Potter. This new Wizarding World land adds an enchanting, international flair to the existing experience of Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade Village in Universal’s other adjoining parks.
- How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk – Enter a vibrant Viking-themed realm where guests can fly with dragons in an adventure inspired by the How to Train Your Dragon films.
- Super Nintendo World – Step into this gamified land through an iconic green pipe and immerse yourself in the world of Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Donkey Kong, and more.
Why Spring 2025 Might Not Be Disney’s Time to
Honestly, with Epic Universe just opening, there’s going to be a lot of attention on Universal. They’re ready to roll out fresh experiences, new dining options, and all the excitement that comes with opening something totally new. Meanwhile, Disney World will still have its iconic attractions, but for regulars or those torn between the two, the pull of something new and groundbreaking might be hard to ignore.

Also, Disney World is going to be crowded as always, but there won’t be the novelty factor that Universal will have with Epic Universe. A trip to Epic Universe next spring means you’ll be one of the first to experience this new park.

Plus, Universal is famous for pushing the envelope on ride technology, so expect some crazy, next-gen stuff.
Doest This All Mean That A Trip To Disney World Off the Table?
Not necessarily! Listen, at the end of the day, Disney World is still magical, and if your heart’s set on it, you’re still going to have an amazing time. But if you’re on the fence or love the idea of trying something totally new, it might be worth putting Disney on hold for just one more year. Or at the latest, you might want to go in the summer or fall when the hype around Epic Universe settles a bit.

Like we said, Disney World isn’t going anywhere. You just might want to weigh out your options when it comes to planning your Spring 2025 trip!
