REVIEW: We Had Breakfast at the NEWEST Spot in Disney World — Was The Price Worth It?

The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers has finally opened at Disney’s BoardWalk!

The Cake Bake Shop

We won’t lie, we were totally with you all when we saw the menu and prices released for this new spot, but we’re here to try it out for YOU to let you know if these high price tags are worth it. Of course, that means we have to start with the first meal of the day, so let’s see if breakfast lives up to the hype!

Background

The Cake Bake Shop, owned by acclaimed baker Gwendolyn Rogers, originates from Indiana and is famous for its pastries, specifically their cake slices.

Bakery Case

This new addition to Disney’s BoardWalk Inn serves up sweet and savory dishes inside a whimsical atmosphere.

Atmosphere

Cake Bake Shop showcases a beautiful atmosphere, with charming decor that feels magical thanks to the warm lighting, crystals, and glitter. It definitely looks and feels like an elevated dining experience.

So magical!

There are five dining room areas with plenty of tables and seating. Wherever you are sat, you will feel immersed in the same whimsy and charm that fills the entire restaurant.

But as much as we enjoyed the vibes. the food is what makes or breaks a restaurant. So let’s get right to it!

Food & Drinks

We got a chance to try four different items off the expansive breakfast menu, and first up was the Cinnamon Toast Brioche Bites for $23.99. These were absolutely incredible and easily shareable, as they came with about 7 bites, and had icing for dipping. They were honestly the best thing we had!

We also tried the Classic Eggs Benedict for $19.99, which we were also blown away by. It’s served on a buttery croissant, and we liked that the ham was thicker sliced than what you’d find at a deli, but not too thick. The hollandaise was super creamy, and while salt and pepper were offered (you did have to ask for it though), we didn’t think it needed anything extra!

Classic Eggs Benedict

Broccoli Quiche was our third entree, which was served with a side of Arugula Salad and cost $23.99. The quiche was super creamy and light, almost airy, and they put vodka in the quiche crust, which was phenomenal. While the arugula salad was great and was tossed in their homemade citrus dressing, you have to really like arugula because that’s all it is.

Next up was the Challah Orange French Toast for $18.99. We definitely tasted the orange flavor here, but it wasn’t overpowering. It was your classic french toast with just that additional flavor, so while we did enjoy this dish overall, we wouldn’t get it again, because we’d prefer to try a different quiche instead!

We then tried the Eggs Any Style for $17. This plate was jam-packed with breakfast staples (as well as actual jam, which consisted of their homemade Raspberry Pixie Jam.) The eggs were cooked perfectly and we chose bacon as our side, which was smoked and had tasty crispy bits to it. The potatoes were the standout for us, as they were nice and soft on the inside but then were crispy, almost caramelized on the outside. As much as we enjoyed it, however, we do think there are more exciting things on the menu, especially for the price.

The Chocolate Belgian Waffle is next and it is available for $17.99. The waffles were very fluffy and airy with the perfect amount of chocolate chips. They are also served with maple syrup and chocolate syrup for you to drape over them, as well as pink frosting and extra chocolate chips. These were literally our dream waffles.

And because it is fall, of course, we had the Pumpkin Spice Latte for $7.99. It had a really cute presentation with the cinnamon and glitter and it came with a cinnamon sugar doughnut hole. However, it wasn’t a standout, and we felt like it tasted similar to other pumpkin spice lattes you can get elsewhere. We would opt for something more unique next time.

What’s breakfast without a little pastry? We chose the Banana Orange Nut Bread for $8.99, and it was a great choice because it was delicious! It was freshly baked and was very moist and cake-like. The orange zest added the most amazing zingy quality to it and the icing had us absolutely raving about it. We’d even go as far as ordering an extra cup of it next time to dip it in. And of course, it was sprinkled with pixie glitter which made it look absolutely magical.

And, we couldn’t leave without trying the Croque Madame for $28.99. This was honestly one of the best breakfast sandwiches we’ve had anywhere, let alone in Disney World. The sunny-side-up egg burst open with ease, allowing that nice yolk to run down all along the sides of the country bread, and paired with the béchamel sauce and the Gruyère cheese, it created the most creamy and decadent of toppings.

There are several slices of thinly sliced ham stacked inside of the sandwich, creating an incredibly savory and delicious meal. A true winner for us!

Magic or Tragic?

So overall, do we recommend this restaurant to you? Well, that depends. It may be a great fit for you if:

  • You want a unique and whimsical dining experience — The atmosphere of the restaurant feels very magical and the quality of the food is incredible.
  • You’re looking for a stylish restaurant to take some aesthetic pictures.
  • You’re in search of a one-of-a-kind experience to celebrate something special — We can’t think of anywhere else that gives off the same enchanting vibes and still delivers in its dishes.

However, we would not recommend this restaurant if:

  • You’re looking for a budget-friendly meal — Although we see the justification in the pricing for the quality, the items on the menu can be pricey and it can add up.
  • Are looking for vegan options — Cake Bake Shop is a European-style bakery so they do not currently have many vegan alternatives.
