NO WAY! I’m Shocked You Can STILL Do This in Disney World in 2025

Disney World hacks tend to change with the times, but there’s one in particular that is relevant to this day.

Disney World

Disney World looks a lot different today than it did pre-pandemic, utilizing new services like Lightning Lanes and sporting ever-changing rules, but that doesn’t mean everything has changed. In fact, a perk introduced in the 1980s still works today, believe it or not!

In 1987, Disney introduced its own currency that still has value to this day. We’re of course talking about Disney Dollars, which can be redeemed at Disney locations. There is a catch, however, so let us explain.

Disney Dollars!

Disney Dollars are a currency that was sold by The Walt Disney Company and are redeemable for goods/services at several Disney locations. We say was sold because despite still being accepted (more on that in a bit), they are no longer sold. Disney stopped printing and distributing Disney Dollars in 2016.

These bills are similar in size and design to regular United States paper currency with one major catch — they are Disney-themed. Bills feature designs of popular Disney characters like Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald, as well as other characters and themes like Pirates of the Caribbean and Simba.

Bills come in different denominations and are all signed by the “treasurer” Scrooge McDuck with a drawing of Tinker Bell on the front.

Disney Dollars were first used at Disneyland in 1987 before making their way over to EPCOT later that year. From there they expanded in use.

While they serve as awesome souvenirs today, as we mentioned previously, Disney locations including Disney World still accept them as a form of currency. According to the official Disney World website, Disney Dollars are accepted at the following Walt Disney World Resort locations:

  • Ticketing locations
  • Food and beverage venues
  • Merchandise locations
  • Recreation areas
  • Your Disney Resort hotel Front Desk
  • Your Disney Resort hotel concierge
  • Guest Relations at Disney theme parks and water parks

Disney Dollars are also accepted at the Disneyland Resort and select Disney Store locations in the United States.

Perhaps holding more value as a souvenir rather than actual currency in the long run, it’s still great to see that folks who acquired these bills with the intent to spend them still have that option years after they’ve gone out of production!
