6 Unspoken Rules for Visiting Frontierland in Magic Kingdom

Frontierland in Magic Kingdom has seen quite a few changes lately, and even more are on the way.

Frontierland

This summer, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened after being re-themed from Splash Mountain. The Country Bears got some extra love and a well-deserved break. When they came back from hibernation, the Country Bear Jamboree opened with a new show featuring a setlist of Disney songs, and the Bears even updated their wardrobe. The Frontierland Shootin Arcade closed to make way for a new Disney Vacation Club lounge. And even more additions are on the way. At D23, it was announced that the Rivers of America, along with Tom Sawyer Island, will close to make way for two brand new ‘Cars ’-themed attractions. While Frontierland has changed, we still follow these six unspoken rules.

When we visit Magic Kingdom, these are the six things we always try to do when we take a trip to the frontier in Frontierland.

Take the Shortcut Between Adventureland and Frontierland

Frontierland borders both Liberty Square and Adventureland. If you want to enter Frontierland from Adventureland, you can walk all the way through Adventureland past Pirates of the Caribbean and end up near Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Or you could take a shortcut!

Don’t walk all the way through Adventureland to get to Frontierland!

There are two “tunnel” shortcuts between Adventureland and Frontierland. The first is next to Aloha Isle and Frontier Trading Post, and the second is between The Diamond Horseshoe and Skipper Canteen.

Take the shortcut!

Now you know for next time!

Visit the Country Bears for Some AC and Laughs

The new Country Bear Jamboree debuted in July, and many people have yet to see it. You can visit the Bears and watch them perform their new show, as well as take a break.

Grizzly Hall has great AC, so you can sit for about 10 minutes and rest your feet before tackling the rest of your park day.

Visit Tom Sawyer Island and Ride the Liberty Square Riverboat One Last Time

While no closing date has been announced, Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island’s days are numbered

Construction permits have already been filed to convert this area for the ‘Cars’ expansion. So make sure to hop on Log Raft and explore the Island one last time.

Catch the Start of the Parade

Unlike Disneyland, the parade at Magic Kingdom starts from the same location every day in Frontierland.

Frontierland is a great place to catch the parade!

If you want to get a good spot and be there for the start of the parade, head over to the parade doors that open near Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Pecos Bill Tall Tale Cafe.

Save Your Feet, Take the Train

If you visit the very end of Frontierland at Big Thunder Mountain, you will reach what is the current end of that side of Magic Kingdom. Soon, this could change with the addition of Villains Land “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain,” but regardless, it is a far walk from Frontierland to the front of the park.

If you have the time and want to rest, we love to take the train back to the front of the park. Plus it is like you are getting the full experience of the American Frontier!

Watch the Fireworks from the Bridge Near Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

While many people rush to Main Street U.S.A. to see the castle projections, you can get a great view of the fireworks from Frontierland.

Happily Ever After

Simply head to the bridge near the popcorn stand by Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and enjoy as the skies around Magic Kingdom light up. This view could change with the future ‘Cars’ expansion, so make sure to soak in this view while you can.
