It can be a double-edged sword when a Disney World attraction closes for good.
While it’s sad to see a long-running attraction close, and you’ll likely never have the chance to experience it again, the closure means that Disney is making way for something new and exciting. Sadly, a Cars-themed show in Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be closing soon to make space for an exciting upcoming theater production.
You may be aware that Disney is bringing more villains-themed experiences to its Disney World parks and Disney Cruise Line. The Disney Destiny will be a Heroes vs. Villains-themed ship with villains lounges and more. Magic Kingdom will soon be home to the new Villains Land beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting a brand-new villains show!
Unfortunately, to make room for the new stage show at Hollywood Studios, Disney is closing the current show at Sunset Showcase. Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy will be closing permanently soon, on October 7th.
Sunset Showcase is a building tucked away along Sunset Boulevard. Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy is the current show inside the building, featuring characters from Disney Pixar’s Cars movie. Lightning McQueen shows you what he’s learned about racing on his new high-tech racing simulator. There are also appearances from Tow Mater, Cruz Ramirez, and other Cars characters.
However, you only have a few more days to see this show before it’s gone forever and replaced with the villains show. The Disney Villains show is set to open in the summer of 2025, and a new permit was just recently filed for work to begin on the production.
It’s can be tough to say “goodbye” to a Disney World attraction, especially if it was one of your favorites, but a new Disney Villains stage show sounds like an exciting bit of entertainment for Hollywood Studios. If you enjoy Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy or have never seen it before, you’ll want to get over to Sunset Showcase before October 7th to see it one last time!

This was such an unpopular attraction at Hollywood Studios. My boys love Pixar Cars, but weren’t huge fans of this show. Excited for the new attraction!!!
