What’s Disney World like just after a hurricane?

On September 26th, Hurricane Helene slammed into Florida at the strength of a category 4 hurricane. According to CBS News, the storm “made landfall about 10 miles west of Perry, Florida, at 11:10PM Eastern Time, according to the hurricane center, with maximum sustained winds of 140 miles per hour.” While Helene rapidly weakened to the level of a tropical storm, the storm did cause significant damage and left millions without power.
As is typical for a major weather event, Hurricane Helene did affect Disney World. The September 26th Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party was canceled, with Disney saying “We are always looking to deliver a great and enjoyable experience for our guests. Due to forecasted weather and the impact to our outdoor entertainment offerings, we are canceling Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 26. Guest tickets will be refunded.” Disney handed out candy to guests staying at the Old Key West Resort for guests as a way to make up for the party being canceled.

On the morning of September 27th, Disney World opened as normal, and we were at the Magic Kingdom.

For the most part, things at the park seemed normal. There was no visible damage that we could see…

…and things seemed to be humming along on the construction project by Pirates of the Caribbean in Adventureland.

Crowd levels and ride wait times were somewhat low, though they are in line with typical early morning levels for a Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party day. Speaking of, the party is scheduled to go on as scheduled on September 27th.

We also noticed that the Biibbidi Bobbidi Boutique has walk-up opportunities available, which could be a sign that there were some cancelations. However, we’ve also seen this sign out on less crowded days.

The morning after Hurricane Helene struck Florida, Disney World has seemingly opened for business-as-usual. Our thoughts are with those impacted by the hurricane.
