3 BIG Reasons Disney World Lines Are Going To Be ROUGH This Weekend

Brace yourself if you’re heading to Walt Disney World this weekend.

Hub Fireworks Crowds

Crowds at Walt Disney World are nothing new. In fact, over the last several decades, the resort’s demographics and visitor patterns have shifted to the point that there’s really no such thing as an “off-season” anymore. However, that doesn’t mean some times aren’t more crowded than others.

For example, if you’re heading to Disney World in the next few days be prepared for BIG crowds. For starters, it’s Labor Day Weekend, traditionally one of the resort’s busiest holidays as — for many in the U.S. — it marks their final chance for a summer getaway before shifting into autumn.

In addition to the general Labor Day crowds, several special events are on the Walt Disney World calendar this weekend. There are sold-out Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party events on both Friday, August 30th and Monday, September 2nd (Labor Day itself), which often leads to inflated crowds at the Magic Kingdom in the afternoon as Halloween Party guests filter in as regular day guests finish their day.

Fantasyland crowds

EPCOT will also likely see heavy crowds, as this Labor Day weekend is also the first weekend for the 2024 International Food & Wine Festival, which opened on August 29th.

Outdoor crowds in the afternoon

Disney World won’t be the only busy spot this Labor Day weekend, however, as expectations are that this will be one of the busiest travel periods on record. According to CNN, “Domestic travel over the 2024 Labor Day weekend is forecast to be up 9% compared with last year, according to AAA. At US airports, the Transportation Security Administration is preparing for its busiest Labor Day travel period on record, with an 8.5% increase in passenger volume over 2023.”

The outlet further goes on to emphasize that this increase in travel can be attributed to travel prices dipping. CNN explains, “AAA says overall it’s seeing a 2% dip in the cost of traveling domestically over Labor Day weekend compared with last year.” Airfare is down 17%, and the national average gas price is lower than it was last year.
