“It’s Edible” — Disney Fans Are Still FURIOUS 2 Months After This Controversial Snack Change 

Two months ago, we lost a very special and fan-favorite snack in the Magic Kingdom. 

When we woke up two months ago and saw that the Sleepy Hollow Waffle Sandwiches were gone, we were just as upset as many of our readers were. Although the iconic Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich and Sweet-and-Spicy Chicken-Waffle Sandwich are no longer on the menu, you can still get waffles at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments in Liberty Square, but they just are not the same. 

Now, the menu serves Mickey Waffles all day, whereas, before the menu change, you could only get them in the morning. The new replacements also use Mickey Waffles instead of Belgian waffles. As for the new waffle options, the menu includes a Mickey Waffle with Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread, Bananas, and Whipped Cream, a Mickey Waffle with Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread, Bananas, Berries, and Whipped Cream, and a Mickey Waffle with Sweet-and-Spicy Maple Chicken. 

While these new replacements tried to mimic the loved waffle sandwiches, many people, including us, have been left disappointed by the change. 

We were scrolling through our reviews on AllEars.net, where our readers can tell us and others what they think about attractions, restaurants, hotels, and more throughout Disney World. A recent Sleepy Hollow Refreshments review stood out to us. 

 

This reviewer gave Sleepy Hollow Refreshments a 4 out of 10 stars and tied the Mickey waffle with Sweet-and-Spicy Maple Chicken. They said that this snack is “Edible but just doesn’t reach the greatness of the original” and that “it’s not the same as it was the last time [they] visited. Very disappointed.”

We were curious to see what other readers thought about the changes and spoiler alert: many people feel the same way that the review above does.

One reader said, “The new waffles were not even close and were an insult to the original waffles, unfortunately.” Another reader said, “They might as well just shut Sleepy Hollow down. The new waffles taste like a cheap knock, and the toppings are not nearly as appealing. Our family preferred the malted flavor of the old waffles, fresh fruit toppings, and generous spread of Nutella.”

Another reader pointed out that when they walked by Sleepy Hollow Refreshments a few weeks ago, there was barely a line compared to before when they had the waffle sandwiches. The line would wrap around the side of the building.

Unfortunately, this change is still new, which means that backlash will continue as more people try the waffles or find out that the waffle sandwiches have been replaced. We think this one reader put it best: “It’s so sad, but the new waffles are Mickey-shaped, at least.”

Disney has listened to fans in the past, and one reader pointed out, “They listened and brought back the hush puppies, so I am holding on to hope for the waffles!” We will keep our fingers crossed and continue to be hopeful. Although not confirmed, we did hear that it is easier to maintain only one type of waffle iron instead of two, as it did in the past. So, it seems that this change may have been to help with efficiency and cost.
