Leaving a pup behind can be one of the hardest parts of going on vacation. First off, there’s the emotional component of leaving a beloved companion. Then there’s the practicality of finding adequate care for a pooch, be it from family, friends, or a reputable pet hotel or boarder. However, there is an option to bring a dog to Disney World!

While generally dogs — outside of service dogs — aren’t allowed at Walt Disney World’s hotels, there are FOUR exceptions: Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney Port Orleans Resort – Riverside, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, and The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort.

Art of Animation Resort

Each of these four resorts has certain areas of accommodation that feature “easy access to outdoor walkways for exercise and to green spaces with pet relief areas.

Dogs are currently the only pets allowed, and a maximum of two are permitted per room. Dogs are required to be well-behaved, leashed in public areas, and properly vaccinated.

Furthermore, “upon arrival, dogs and their owners will be greeted with a complimentary Pluto’s Welcome Kit” according to Disney.

Here’s my sweet girl!

While these hotels do allow dogs, that doesn’t mean they’re allowed in other areas of Walt Disney World.

As per the company, “While certain floors or sections of these Disney Resort hotels are designated as dog-friendly, the majority of areas remain canine-free to protect Guests with allergies or other needs. Other than service animals, dogs are not permitted in theme parks, water parks or common areas such as restaurants, pools and recreational spaces.”

Fort Wilderness Cabin

If you want to bring your pooch to Disney World but DON’T want to stay in one of these hotels, you can make reservations to drop them — or another pet — at the Best Friends Pet Care pavilion. This resort for pets offers accommodations from the “casual sleepover to a week-long retreat, luxurious accommodations are available to provide your pet with privacy and comfort. While the Best Friends Pet Hotel facility can accommodate up to 300 dogs, cats and small pets, reservations are suggested.”

  1. When pet owners think about going on vacation, they often think “Our fur babies are holding us hostage”. What do we do with them?
Do we leave them at home and hope the neighbor remembers to feed them? Going to the vet gives them anxiety, much less leaving them there to wonder – are they coming back for me? Shall I wait in this spot for a week?
It’s wonderful that Disney has a heart for our companions. They realize they are members of the family that we can’t just leave behind. Except for Uncle Earl, he smells like Fun Yuns and mothballs. He can stay at home. We do appreciate the thoughtfulness of Disney and the overwhelming support of the anxiety that’s lifted when we know the fur babies can come play too.

  2. Yes! We brought our dog to the AOA resort and they were super friendly about it. It was $50 a night extra, for her to stay in our room with us though.
