If you use a Microsoft system on your computer for work, you may have been impacted by the major, global outage on Friday, July 19th.

Government entities, banks, hospitals, and even airlines were affected by the IT outage that affected 8.5 million Windows devices, according to Microsoft. The outage caused over 3,000 airline cancellations on Friday, which continued into Saturday. Now, on Sunday, July 21st, airlines, and in particular Delta, continue to be affected by the results of the outage.
According to ABC News, Delta Airlines is the airline that continues to be the most affected by the outages now two days later. We’re seeing that impact on flights specifically at the Orlando International Airport.

Currently, there are 152 delays and 52 cancellations at the Orlando International Airport, according to FlightAware. The highest percentage of those are from Delta. At the time of writing this post, Delta had 29 cancellations and 61 delays, and counting as the day goes on.

On Friday, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines all issued a global ground stop due to communication airlines. Today, July 21st, American Airlines has declared they have returned to normal operations. Whereas both United and Delta continue to see cancellations and delays out of MCO.

The outage was caused due to a bad software update sent out by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike. Some systems were able to be recovered after rebooting the system, while others are still being affected, according to a U.S. Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency report reviewed by ABC News.

Many services may still be affected by the outage, so it’s important to keep track of your flight status if you are flying today or in the next couple of days. Airlines use mobile apps, email, and texting to send updates on flight statuses, so there are multiple ways to stay updated. If your flight does get delayed or canceled, be sure to work with the airline to figure out the next steps.
