The ONE THING You MUST Do Before Visiting Disney World on July 24th

With more change on the horizon for Disney World’s complicated Genie+ skip-the-line system, you’re probably left scratching your head about what exactly is happening. Well, Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes (the paid way to skip the standby lines in Disney World) are evolving to a system called Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass

Disney World’s tech doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to working properly when new things roll out in the parks, but there is one BIG change you can make now that could help BEFORE the big updates go into effect!

Disney World and Disneyland have quietly released updates to their apps in preparation for the huge changes coming to Lightning Lanes on July 24th, 2024. With this change, the system currently known as Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes will become Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass. This new version of the revised Fastpass+ will allow visitors to book Lightning Lanes in advance of their visits AND book those first reservations via a tiered ranking of rides and attractions.

Since the deadline for the new system is days away, we were a bit surprised when we opened our My Disney Experience app and saw an important message. Disney is prompting people to update their My Disney Experience app! Both iOS and Android users on our team have reported pop-up notifications asking them to review their current version of the app and guiding them to the app store to update to the latest release.

In the notes of the My Disney Experience release, we spotted verbiage that hinted at allowing the app to work as it should (hopefully) when the new system drops on July 24th. This update would allow both versions of the apps to pick up Lightning Lane Multi Pass options and the Lightning Lane Single Pass selections as a user wishes to purchase them.

We also read something similar in the update of the Disneyland app! Note the Lightning Lane changes are NOT coming to Disneyland quite yet.

We’re hoping that this advance release signals that Disney is attempting to be proactive and limit the probability for potential issues with the new system. That said, we can also understand that since it’s new for everyone involved, there may be a few kinks to work.
