NEWS: Hurricane Beryl Is Now a Category 5 Storm

Hurricane season has begun, and the first hurricane of the season has recently developed into a Category 5 hurricane.

We have been keeping an eye on Hurricane Beryl and its projected path as it travels through the Caribbean Sea. While it is not currently projected to be headed towards Disney World, it is always a good idea to keep an eye on storms.

Hurricane Beryl is currently a Category 5 storm and the earliest Atlantic Category 5 storm on record. According to the New York Times, Hurricane Beryl made landfall on Monday and devastated islands in Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. There was widespread destruction in these nations and officials reported one death in each of the nations.

Other islands in the Caribbean have been facing storm surges and life-threatening winds. Hurricane Beryl is expected to remain a strong hurricane as it continues to move through the Caribbean Sea. Heavy rainfall and flash flooding are likely to impact much of Jamaica on Wednesday.

The current projected path of Hurricane Beryl has the storm continuing through the Caribbean Sea and into the Gulf of Mexico, however, hurricane paths are constantly adjusting and can change quickly. With the current track, tropical-storm-force winds are expected to arrive in the Yucatán Peninsula later in the day on Thursday and the eye of the storm is projected to arrive in the Gulf of Mexico this weekend as a Tropical Storm.

Those in the Central and Western Caribbean are advised to keep a close eye on the path of the hurricane and take precautions as the hurricane continues moving. The direction of the storm can change at any moment, so it is always a good idea to keep an eye on the current projections.
