Tomorrow Could Be the LAST DAY for Some Iconic Disney Entertainment

We’e going to keep a close eye on the Disneyland entertainment schedule in the coming days.

Disney California Adventure

We’ve noticed a disturbing trend at Disneyland developing over the last year or so, which has only come more pronounced in the last few weeks. It seems that live entertainment offerings at the resort are being cut right and left, and we have a sneaking suspicion we know why.

We’ve noticed the amount of live entertainment offerings diminishing in the parks for a while. For example, there hasn’t been a show in California Adventure’s massive Hyperion Theater — former home of the long-running shows “Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular,” and “Frozen – Live at the Hyperion” — hasn’t hosted anything in nearly a year. The most recent show to play there was the limited-run Marvel-based “Rogers: The Musical” last summer.

However, the issue came to the forefront in recent months with two somewhat shocking announcements of two live entertainment offerings ending just before the packed summer season.

The first was the announcement that “Dr. Strange: Mysteries of Mystic Arts” in Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure would be ending on June 30th. The end of the show, which was performed multiple times a day, came as an especially large surprise as the Ancient Sanctum area of Avengers Campus was built specially for this show. Disney said at the time that Dr. Strange would continue to make appearances in Avengers Campus as a walk-around character.

The second was the announcement that the live dancers and DJ were being removed from the park’s Club Pixar area, which will remain open with photo opportunities and games. The sudden removal of these performers was looked at quizzically, as Club Pixar is part of the limited-time Pixar Fest event at the Disneyland Resort, meaning that there was an already scheduled endnote for this offering.

At the time, Disney said these offerings were changed thanks to “guest feedback and operational considerations.” However, many have speculated that their removal has more to do with the fact that 1,700 Disneyland entertainment Cast Members voted to unionize under the Actor’s Equity Association earlier this year.

While there’s no way to prove this, the difference in the Disneyland live entertainment calendar between June 29th…

… and 30th is somewhat staggering.

One note however, while the Marvel show “Warriors of Wakanda: The Disciplines of the Dora Milaje” does drop between the 29th and the 30th, the show does return to the resort’s calendar and remains through the month.
