Genie+ is changing, and it reminds us a little bit of our old friend, FastPass+.

On July 24th, Genie+ will become Lightning Lane Multi-Pass and Lightning Lane Single-Pass will become Single Lightning Lane Pass. Believe it or not, if you are planning to use this new paid-to-skip-the-line service, your booking window might be closer than you think! We are going to break it down for you and make sure that you know which rides to prioritize.
While this new system will still allow you to pay to skip the standby line, there are some new changes or kind of old changes that mimic Genie+’s predecessor, FastPass+. Let’s review the basics.

With the Lightning Lane Multi-Pass, you can make three Lightning Lane selections. However, you can still make any additional selections on the My Disney Experience app.

Lightning Lane Single-Pass will work the same way as Individual Lightning Lane. This is an al a carte system that allows you to skip the line at some of Disney World’s most popular attractions.

You will now be able to purchase and make your selections before your vacation starts. Those who are staying at a Disney World hotel (or other select participating hotels) will be able to make both Multi-Pass and Single-Pass selections up to 7 days in advance for their entire stay (up to 14 days). All other guests, such as non-hotel guests and Annual Passholders, can plan up to 3 days in advance.

This new system will be divided into tiers, just like FastPass+. You can hold up to three selections at a time, as there is no longer the 120-minute cool-down window. Your first three selections when using Multi-Pass must be made all within the same park. Once you use your first pass, you can choose another experience in another park if you have a park hopper ticket or an annual pass. Making more selections is subject to availability.

A Full Break Down of the New Version of Genie+ in Disney World
You may choose one experience from tier one and, two experiences from tier two, or all three. The tier system does not apply to Animal Kingdom.

In Magic Kingdom, the tiers are as follows:

For Magic Kingdom’s tier-one selection, we would recommend prioritizing Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to give you peace of mind and not have to worry about getting a Virtual Queue when the time rolls around for you to visit Magic Kingdom. Reminder — as of writing, the only two ways to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure are via Lightning Lane or Virtual Queue. There is no standby line.
How Virtual Queue Will Work With Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
If you are confident in your Virtual Queue skills, we would then suggest going with Space Mountain or Peter Pan’s Flight (note: this ride is temporarily closing on July 8th) as your tier-one pick for Magic Kingdom.

In tier two, we suggest the classic attractions of Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion. If you choose to make all three of your selections in the tier two category, we recommend choosing Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, as this ride can have high wait times in the afternoon.

In EPCOT the tiers are as follows:

In tier one, we would prioritize going for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. Depending on where you plan to enter the park, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is a good choice for tier one since it is towards the back of the World Showcase, and it can be difficult to rope drop. A good backup ride in tier one is Frozen Ever After, as this attraction boasts high wait times as well.

In tier two, we suggest selecting Mission: SPACE along with Spaceship Earth. Mission: SPACE normally has the highest wait times out of this tier, while Spaceship Earth’s wait times fluctuate based on the time of day. For example, right when the park opens, people rush to Spaceship Earth since it is the first ride you see when you enter the park. Securing a Lightning Lane selection for this ride could help you avoid the rush. If you choose to pick another ride in tier two, we suggest either Living with the Land or Journey Into Imagination with Figment.

In most cases, attractions in the EPCOT tier two category have short wait times, but this can fluctuate during busy seasons like summer and the holidays.

Now let’s take a look at the Hollywood Studios’ tiers:

For tier one, we would suggest prioritizing Slinky Dog Dash in Toy Story Land. This attraction always has a long line throughout the day, and being able to skip this line would help open up your day. We know that this selection will be popular, so it is good to have a backup plan. As a second option, we would suggest going for Millenium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. If you are a Star Wars fan and would like to guarantee that you experience one attraction in Galaxy’s Edge, we would prioritize this selection.

In Hollywood Studios’ tier two, we would prioritize Toy Story Mania and the Tower of Terror. Both of these attractions tend to have long waits. Plus, it would not be a trip to Hollywood Studios without a trip to the Twilight Zone! If you choose to pick a third option from this tier, we would suggest rounding out Toy Story Land and selecting Alien Swirling Saucers.

As mentioned before, Animal Kingdom does not have tiers, but you can still select three attractions.

For our top three, we would suggest prioritizing Na’vi River Journey as the Shaman animatronic in this attraction is incredible. While this attraction is not as popular as its next-door neighbor, Flight of Passage, it still draws high waits. Just like in Hollywood Studios, no trip to Animal Kingdom is complete without going to its main attraction, Expedition Everest. Finally, we would suggest prioritizing Kilimanjaro Safaris. This is a great way to see the animals up close! If you can grab a morning time, that’s usually one of the best times to see them in action.

We know these changes can be confusing, but we are hopeful about this new system and will make sure to update you when we try it out for the first time on July 24th. As always, stay tuned to AllEars for more Disney news!
