People Are Already Furious About This Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Change in Disney World

Now that we’ve had our first glimpse of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom and the ride featuring Tiana and her friends has been open for several months, there seems to be one thing that we’re noticing that folks aren’t pleased with.

While we’re all mesmerized by the lifelike animatronics, incredible decor, and how transformed this ride has become ever since we finally got to see its finished form when the construction walls came down, Disney fans seem to be furious about changes they’ve spotted.

Most Disney fans can agree that it took A LOT of work to transform Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and most of us probably speculated that the turnaround time was a bit ambitious. While it was exciting to witness the transformation on the outside of the queue and building facade, there wasn’t a whole lot of talk about what we would experience inside until much more recently.

People who have had an opportunity to experience the ride or at least see a virtual ride through, seem to take issue with one glaring problem. Disney’s known to keep some of their best stories under wraps — which typically leads to a grand reveal that we’re mostly pleased with, but we’ve seen lots of comments from folks who really wanted more from this storyline.

Maybe it’s because we’re comparing apples to oranges here between two very different storyline setups, but the biggest issue we’re hearing about with the story is there’s just not a whole lot going for it in general. In this new ride, Tiana is hosting a Mardi Gras celebration for her friends and community and she’s tasked us with helping her (and Louis) find a missing ingredient.

However, during their search, they happen upon an opportunity to ask Mama Odie for help and chaos quickly ensues. She’s one who’s known to give you what you need, more than what you think you want — and this adventure is no exception.

She shrinks us down to tiny size to sniff out that missing ingredient for Tiana and in the process, we’re taken through a psychedelic room and a weird blast of light right before a 50-foot plunge down the mountainside. (Don’t think we didn’t hear you when you pointed out that the hidden Mickey at the top of the mountain is no longer there).

While the ride does make other nods to the former attraction AND to Walt Disney and notable memorabilia from the Disney parks in general, its full storyline just doesn’t seem to have much girth. This ride has proved divisive with critics and fans both echoing they would have liked to have seen more peril, adventure or turns in the storyline rather than just finding musicians throughout the ride to bring to Tiana’s party.

We kinda get it, though. We can see where folks would feel like the storyline is missing…but even our own team is torn on this debate.

  1. Doesn’t help that Disney CEO Bob Iger was heard saying the new ride is boring after trying it during the preview. Ironic considering he’s the one who ordered the change.

  2. If it ain’t broke, fix it till it is seems to be Disney’s motto. Maelstrom, Test Track, Splash Mountain to name a few and now Country Bear Jamboree. If people found these attractions offensive no one forced them to ride. I used to go to Disney world to get away from that sort of nonsense now it’s no longer an escape to my Happy Place. The Most Magical Place on Earth has lost its Magic.
