Why Disney Adults Are Going AGAINST the Most Popular Vacation Trend of 2024

Okay, so you’re probably here because you are either planning your first trip to a Disney park or you’ve been many times. But we bet you’re here because you love Disney.

So that makes us all Disney adults, and as such, we seem to be bucking a lot of trends. That includes trends involved with travel, as well as the kinds of travel that people are supposed to be doing in 2024 — let’s just say we’re not having any of that. So here’s why.

According to Hilton, the main reason people are traveling in 2024 is for rest and relaxation. This is something that crosses generations, with almost everyone across ages agreeing. Also, 60 percent of travelers want to stay at resorts and there’s been a rise in sleep tourism (yep, people want to sleep when they travel).

Meanwhile, there’s us, the Disney adults. We get up at midnight (if we fell asleep before that) to purchase Genie+. Then we head back to bed only to get up early again so we can either take advantage of Early Theme Park Entry or rope drop. Then we stay in the parks until closing only to do it again the next day.

Granted, some of us do head back to the hotel in the middle of the day for a quick nap or some pool time to recharge just so we can go BACK to the park and stay until close. But rest? What’s that? We’ll rest when we’re home. Relaxation? We can’t relax!  We have to get that next Lightning Lane time!

But here’s the thing: Disney adults seek something beyond typical rest and relaxation when it comes to travel. First, our idea of relaxation is being in a Disney Park where we don’t have to worry about adulting things. We also don’t have to concern ourselves with a lot of travel worries, too, because Disney is a relatively safe space.

Disney adults see rest and relaxation differently from most travelers. When we’re on a Disney vacation, we can rest our minds from the cares and worries of the world because we’re in a world where that doesn’t exist. We can revert back to our childhood when life seemed simpler (or for many, have a childhood that we didn’t get to have). In Disney Parks, magic is real, and we’re allowed — no, we’re encouraged — to believe in it.

So let the rest of the world seek out rest and relaxation. We’ll be busy channeling and healing our inner child, which can be just as beneficial as sleep. But, hey, if you still want a rest and relaxation Disney trip that’s more traditional, you can always visit Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii or take a Disney Cruise.

  1. Wholeheartedly agree! For our 30th anniversary, my wife and I spent a week at Old Key West resort and only spent two days at the parks. One at Epcot for Food & Wine, and then a couple of days later at Animal Kingdom. The rest of the time was relaxing on the room balcony, pool, Disney Springs. I feel it was the best Disney vacation ever for me.
