Um, Why Did Disney Create This BIG Hotel PROBLEM?!

This is going to sound cheesy, but there’s just something magical about Coronado Springs.

Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

It’s one of Disney World’s popular moderate hotels, and it’s known for having a romantic and relaxed atmosphere while not going too heavy on the theming (like some of the other resorts). Despite its dreaminess, not every decision that Disney made in its construction makes sense. There’s been something that’s been bugging me about Coronado — the check-in process. It’s really got me scratching my head.

Gather around everybody for today’s episode of, “Why did Disney do that?” As we were saying, Coronado Springs is a beautiful place, with amazing architecture and a great atmosphere, but there’s one thing that just doesn’t make sense — the check-in situation!

So let’s say you’ve just rolled up to the resort and you’re so pumped for your vacation. You’re ready to check in, drop your bags, and then hit the parks, but hold up. It turns out that no matter where your room is located, Ranchos, Casitas, or Cabanas, you’ll have to start your “hike” all the way from the Gran Destino Tower, the one and only place to check in.

And let me tell you, saying that it is a “walk” from there to your room is an understatement, especially if you’re tucked away in Ranchos, which might as well be in another zip code. Even the Casitas, which are connected to the convention center, and the Cabanas are a also good trek from the Gran Destino Tower.

Now, don’t get me wrong, the Gran Destino Tower is gorgeous and all, but why make guests hike halfway across the property just to check in? It lowkey screams of inconvenience or maybe just poor planning. Who knows?

I hear you asking, “What are they doing with the old check-in location?” I’m glad you asked. It’s been redone and has a ton of seating, comfy chairs, and plenty of outlets. It’s a great place to relax, charge your devices, and get out of the Florida sun for a bit.

Look, I get that this could be Disney’s way to encourage guests to use the My Disney Experience app for check-in, but for those who prefer the in-person touch, this approach to check-in creates a major inconvenience, especially for weary travelers with luggage.

On the bright side, you’re pretty much guaranteed to get your daily step goal in if you’re staying in a room far from the tower!

  1. I sure wish Disney had complementary shuttle/tram that would run throughout the resort, even at night. That would be nice, you can get to the pool or restaurants faster/better. I believe several resorts have the same issue; for example, Port Orleans, Riverside, Caribbean Beach, and others. What can be an issue is that you’re so far from places of interest within the resort itself like the cool pool or the restaurants. I really found that was an inconvenience. I believe this fact hinders the resort from making even more money. Although if the Mexican restaurant was more popular than what it is, that would also be an inconvenience. You can’t win, can we.
