Whatever You Do, Do NOT Rope Drop This Ride in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

It used to be easy to tell everyone to rope drop all the popular rides in Disney World, but that’s changed.

We can’t honestly give that advice anymore because some rides will still have notoriously long wait times even right after a park opens. One of those rides is in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and we’re just going to flat out tell you NOT to rope drop it.​

That ride is Slinky Dog Dash. Even just after Hollywood Studios opens in the morning, you’re already looking at a wait of OVER AN HOUR for this ride. Everyone seems to head to Toy Story Land first to wait out in the hot Florida sun for this one (remember, there’s very little shade there). So we’re going to tell you NOT to rope drop Slinky Dog Dash.

So how does this line get so long first thing in the morning? Well, part of the reason is that those with Early Theme Park Entry (aka guests of Disney World hotels) can get into the park 30 minutes before everyone else. Guess where they’re headed? Yep, they’re getting in line for Slinky Dog Dash! So by the time the park opens for everyone, a long line has formed there.

If you REALLY have to ride Slinky Dog Dash, we suggest purchasing Genie+ so you can access the ride’s much shorter Lightning Lane.
