Disney California Adventure

If you’ve been to the Disney parks, you know what we’re talking about. The immersive attractions that transport you to another world. The nighttime fireworks shows that make you cry every time. It’s all thanks to Disney Imagineers! We love moments when these Disney icons pull back the curtains on what they do, and we found out about another Imagineering secret we had to share with you!

Bob Gurr is a former Disney Imagineer and a Disney legend who had a big hand in creating some of the most iconic attractions to date. While scrolling through Bob Gurr’s Instagram (as we often do in our free time, highly recommend!), we found a video about the Monorail!

In the video, Bob Gurr recalls the Monorail opening in 1959 — the first one in the Western Hemisphere. See the design he points to on the gate? That was his original drawing with the two Monorails crossing which can be seen all over Disneyland!

Then he looks off admiring his work from over 60 years ago. We cracked up when he said, “This is the largest refrigerator magnet I have ever seen!” ?

Bob Gurr is responsible for many classic Disney attractions and worked alongside Walt Disney on building Disneyland. He says, “If it moves on wheels at Disneyland, I probably designed it.” Gurr developed over 100 designs for attractions including the Matterhorn Bobsleds and Autopia.
