Our Day in Disney World Was Off to a ROUGH Start Following 5 Major Ride Closures

A Disney World vacation requires a lot of planning.

You’ve figured out where to stay, you’ve bought your park tickets, and you’ve decided what rides are going to be your priorities when you visit each park. But what if you get to a park and the rides on your priority list are closed? Well, that happened recently to us in Disney World. Here’s what we saw.

Shortly after the parks opened in Disney World on January 25th, many rides were listed as “Temporarily Closed,” including three of the most popular rides. Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Space Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom were all closed at the same time. Let’s just say Magic Kingdom, in particular, was having a rough morning.

Some of these attractions are popular rope-drop rides, which could have impacted many people’s plans. This is why we tell you to be flexible — these things can happen all the time! It’s also a good idea to keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app to see when those rides are back up and running. Note that these rides reopened later in the day.

There’s another problem these ride closures could cause, too. First, we saw a LONG line of people at the Transportation and Ticket Center waiting for the ferry to Magic Kingdom. The parks were crowded, and when it’s like this, ride closures will almost certainly cause the wait times to rise at other attractions.

So always pack your patience and have a backup plan ready when the parks are crowded, and multiple rides are closed. The good news is that rides don’t often stay closed for a long time, so if they ARE closed when you want to ride them, you should be able to readjust your plans to ride them later.
