We Guarantee These Are NOT the Disney World Rides You Expected to Go Down The Most in December

While you may have your perfect Disney day planned out with every detail down to the ride order, it’s important to remember that rides can unexpectedly go down.

What Pirates of the Caribbean looks like when it closes

Sometimes outdoor rides have to close due to weather, but other times, rides just have rough days and are only open for part of the day, or in the worst-case scenario, they don’t open at all. December is a very busy month in Disney World, and these are NOT the rides we expected to go down the most throughout those 31 days.

Animal Kingdom

Expedition Everest is the only roller coaster in Animal Kingdom, and it’s an intense (but very fun) ride, so it’s not surprising to us that it went down 32 times over 23 days.

However it was a little surprising that in one of its most unpopular months, Kali River Rapids closed 27 times over 21 days.

And if you’re in the park on a chilly day, riding Kali River Rapids is the LAST things we’d recommend doing…but that’s just us.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

This park’s biggest closures aren’t a surprise to us, because they’re both trackless dark rides (#complicatedtech), but Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway closed 42 times over 24 days.

Rise of the Resistance also closed often, a total of 41 times over 24 days.

Most of Hollywood Studios’ rides are heavy hitters, meaning they’re very popular and attract large crowds. So when one of them goes down for a while, expect to see other wait times go up.

EPCOT

Test Track is one of EPCOT’s most popular rides (don’t forget it’s getting a new overlay soon-ish!), so it closing 34 times over 21 days packed a pretty big punch.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is another trackless dark ride located in the France Pavilion, which means we’re not totally surprised that it went down 29 times over 21 days.

If you find that one of the park’s big ticket rides (both of these, plus Frozen Ever After) are down or have long waits, head over to Living With The Land — it’s one of our favorites!

Magic Kingdom

Now here’s where things get REALLY shocking — The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh went down the most in December — 43 times over 23 days!

The fact that it beat Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, which is next on this last, having closed down 39 times over 22 days, is pretty wild to us.

And we also have a third place for Magic Kingdom since it was so close to being second — Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed 39 times over 28 days.

So what should you do if a ride you were planning on hopping on closes? The key is to be flexible with your Disney World plan! Use that time to hop in line for another ride instead, or sit down to have a bite to eat while you wait for the ride to reopen or you come up with a new plan.
